Doesn't bother me

If there is something I want to do that's risky, I'll weigh up the risks, think about it then make a decision.

If I decide to go for it then I'm all in.

If someone wants to stalk me online to rob me then that's their choice not mine.

I don't base MY life choices around other people's choices.

If I get robbed, beat up, raped or murdered so be it.

Been robbed and had seven shades kicked out of me before, life goes on.....

Yes, of course, all that @gixer

I'm no big risk taker, just for the sake of it...

Running two businesses, that both demand I be physically fit, makes me averse to anything that might leave me in traction for six weeks.

(although the long lie down, does sound quite nice - i could get some trip reports done ...)

But we obviously agree, if you let any fears of what the 'bad guys' might do to you, colour your choices of activity, then them baddies have won.

The overwhelming majority of people are very nice*, helpful, or at least neutral in their attitudes towards others.

(*even if you might have to dig under some surface curmudgeonly posturing, to find the pleasant person underneath :angelic: )

However on occasion, a tedious, or even threatening 'group machismo' may manifest? Particularly in larger groups of guys.

Which may be intimidating - to any person - outside of the group.

But such a phenomenon is very seldom encountered in more remote areas, which is why i get a bit annoyed at the implication that we should be overly cautious, fearful, or worst of all curtail our activities.

Nooo, the real stalker who followed one of the OM ladies around.

You saying my stalking was second rate??

Huh - flounces off ... :bear:

that's him. I met him in Scotland, he'd travelled all that way expecting to bump into someone but it was a cunning ruse!

Go on then ; don't leave us with half a story - You tease ;

Elsewise ; i shall have to fabricate the denouement myself...

And i have serious admin to attend to

Well i may be mistaken as it was about 8 years ago (Mole ?) but I'm sure it was posted on OM that a certain person was going to a meet at Rothiemurchus campsite. The said stalker turned up there but she had had no intention of going.

And then?

Wasn't there a bunch of 'Outraged Chivalrous types from OM'

Lying in wait, To give this awful cove a jolly good dressing down ?

Pleeease say there wus ...

I don't stay in youth hostels for that reason, with sooooooo many bad experiences I prefer to camp in out of the way places.

Being dragged up in some pretty rough areas I think I'm pretty 'streetwise' in my younger days I'd jump at the chance of a confrontation, now days I can't be arsed, if possible I'd sooner walk away.

Still I'll do what I want to do.

I find it better to solve "problems" as they arise.
I find worrying about stuff is often worse than dealing with the worst case scenario.

At school the done thing was to pick a fight and arrange it for home time.
Worrying about the fight was often worse than the actual fight, so I'd fight there and then instead.

Agree about the Hostels. Stayed in one once and never again.

No, it was all very civilized.

It does show though that there are people out there with the wrong intentions.

Well, we mustn't jump to conclusions...

Perhaps this chap just wanted to return a hankie, that the good lady had dropped ?

Gosh, thatsn'awful lot of fightiness you've got going on there Gixer

Cant be doing with hostels much, not neither, but mainly on account of other folks snoring, and insistent plastic bag rustling, at all hours ... :(

(what are they up to? - midnight feasts?)

Never really met any total weirdos in one ...

However ; if ; as implied somewhere above ; there's always one weirdo ; but at the same time you cant identify whom that might be...

No, it was all very civilized.

It does show though that there are people out there with the wrong intentions.

Well ; after further investigation ; it turns out that this particular 'fruit loop' was a disgruntled* former partner of the stalkee...

Which makes a +1 ; for it being a 'person known' who usually causes the trouble... :bag:

Lessons learnt so far..
1.There are some strange people out there.
2. Don't upset Gixer.

1. A given.... Although I'd say 'strange ; and often wonderful' :angelic:

2. Nah ; Gixers a total pussy cat ; you've just got to handle him right :cat:

* one can only hope ; he has since re-gruntled himself; thought about his behaviour ; and is now happily skipping about the countryside bothering no-one ... :bear:

Yup, remember her well...

:whistling:

Wasn't so much stalking ... More just a little light-hearted impersonation :geek:

Advertising that your home will be empty for a named period will probably invalidate your home insurance. Maybe be sensible and check with your insurer that you can advertise to thieves.
Unfortunately the world is arranged that you just can't do what you want when you want to.
