Yes I met him once on Dartmoor. He was pretty open about the stalking! Odd.Sorry to digress a bit FWC but does anyone remember the stalker of OM?
Yup, remember her well...
And any members he thought might be meeting her.Nooo, the real stalker who followed one of the OM ladies around.

that's him. I met him in Scotland, he'd travelled all that way expecting to bump into someone but it was a cunning ruse!
Yes, of course, all that @gixer
I'm no big risk taker, just for the sake of it...
Running two businesses, that both demand I be physically fit, makes me averse to anything that might leave me in traction for six weeks.
(although the long lie down, does sound quite nice - i could get some trip reports done ...)
But we obviously agree, if you let any fears of what the 'bad guys' might do to you, colour your choices of activity, then them baddies have won.
The overwhelming majority of people are very nice*, helpful, or at least neutral in their attitudes towards others.
(*even if you might have to dig under some surface curmudgeonly posturing, to find the pleasant person underneath )
However on occasion, a tedious, or even threatening 'group machismo' may manifest? Particularly in larger groups of guys.
Which may be intimidating - to any person - outside of the group.
But such a phenomenon is very seldom encountered in more remote areas, which is why i get a bit annoyed at the implication that we should be overly cautious, fearful, or worst of all curtail our activities.
And then?
Wasn't there a bunch of 'Outraged Chivalrous types from OM'
Lying in wait, To give this awful cove a jolly good dressing down ?
Pleeease say there wus ... [/QUOTE
I don't stay in youth hostels for that reason, with sooooooo many bad experiences I prefer to camp in out of the way places.
Being dragged up in some pretty rough areas I think I'm pretty 'streetwise' in my younger days I'd jump at the chance of a confrontation, now days I can't be arsed, if possible I'd sooner walk away.
Still I'll do what I want to do.
I find it better to solve "problems" as they arise.
I find worrying about stuff is often worse than dealing with the worst case scenario.
At school the done thing was to pick a fight and arrange it for home time.
Worrying about the fight was often worse than the actual fight, so I'd fight there and then instead.
No, it was all very civilized.
It does show though that there are people out there with the wrong intentions.

Lessons learnt so far..
1.There are some strange people out there.
2. Don't upset Gixer.
Yup, remember her well...
