Talk me out of a Zpacks Duplex

Just added the micro line-locs to my Duplex before a 4 day outing this weekend. Will see if it makes any real difference but hoping it means not faffing about moving the pegs around to adjust.

  • $595 - and the basic idea is VERY like Hamish Brown's tent for his all-the-Munros-in-1-go round in 1974...

I absolutely love this tent!!! It would be perfect for me and for when the wife comes along!!

Did anyone get hammered on customs? Feel free to pm me if you don't wanna make it public knowledge and more importantLy if you have any tips lol

Sorry mate, iv got no idea why!! Can your inbox get full up here?

I don't think so Steve, everyone has the same permissions and there's no limit as far as I can see.

How many have you got in your inbox? Click on inbox and then show all, it should show you at the bottom of the page

Would people prefer if a Duplex owners thread is started or to just keep posting here? Happy to report back on the linelocs but want to put it in the right place.

Yep i ordered one a while ago, was a bit worried that the door systems (for closing and holding the flaps back) would be a bit of a hassle so i opted to wait till they had implemented the new system.

Spoke with Joe last week, there was a bit of a delay with a supplier, we're giving it a couple more weeks to see if he can sort out the supply.

Good stuff :) what colour/cuben did you go for in the end?

Any idea what's changed re the doors? Keep seeing posts online about door line mods and they all look terrible! To me it looks like it wants the female part of one of those side release linelocs on the door tie outs?

Was tempted to go for camo, but in the end i went for the thicker .74oz in dark green.

They're looking to change both the system they use to keep the doors open/held back and closed.

For keeping the doors held back/open they're using longer toggles rather than the current square toggles

For the door closure system they're looking to use hooks instead of the current system with carabiners.
I think this is where the hold up is, they were sent some of the hooks but they were the wrong size.

Asked him to hold it till mid May in the hope the replacements arrive, if not then he'll send me the tent as is.

Not a major change by any stretch, but fingers crossed both systems with make it a noggin easier.

If you're around the Lakes at the beginning of June you are more than welcome to have a look

Apologies Matt, didn't get round to posting. The micro linelocs I put on do make it easier to tighten up the pitch without moving the pegs, for a weight penalty of c.5g Worth doing definitely.

I've not found the square door toggles to be a hassle but I know others have. The door carbiner is well worth waiting for a different option though, it is quite fiddly.

I'm off to Corsica for two weeks this Sunday with the Duplex, so will see how it holds up to some mountain winds.

I'm doing the Mare a Mare Nord with my wife. I did the GR20 in 2011 and loved it - was a great trip and absolutely loved Corsica as a place so was keen to get back there and take my wife. The GR20 trip report was posted to OutdoorsMagic at the time.

Have you done the Mare Nord ed?
