Come and say Hello

Sack the Juggler

Backpacker
Hi All, just joined today so thought I'd say hello. Based on the Isle of Man, looking to shed some weight on my kit, but I'm a big lad so its always difficult.

Currently got three tents (4 if you include the 3 man pop up tent for festivals), Hoolie 2, which is a palatial one man tent or an intimate 2 man tent, Zephyros 2, a stealthy one man tent but needs a good pitch, and a Helm 2, a new purchase (can't resist a bargain) which I'm hoping will be a decent sized 2 man tent (haven't used it yet).

Looking for a way to reduce my tent weight, although to be fair, if I lost 20kilos from around my waist, I reckon I'd find the hills a lot easier with or without my pack!

I've been chatting to Dan Durston about his x-mid 2 on massdrop, so glad to see that he has been keeping you guys updated on here too.

Hi all!

Have signed up some time ago but never got around to introduce myself.

Based in South of Germany very close to the Alps I love overnighters and sleeping on top of mountains.
Don't even own a tent as I mostly just sleep under the stars or often find some kind of wooden shelter. ;)

Now the Mrs. wants in on the fun so I'm looking for a light 2p tent in case anyone has a spare one lying around :)

Cheers!

Hi All,

Bit of a Bushcrafter / Wild Camper at heart. Live in Bristol but tend to do a lot of camping in Wales as its easier to become more remote there. Ive been asked to take 3 others across Dartmoor in August and teach them some bushcraft skills like friction fire etc so have my planning head on to try and find a decent route.

Welcome to the forum. Where are you planning on going? With open fires not being permitted on Dartmoor and most of the woodland offlimit for camping and fires there are very limited sites available?

Hi all,

Just joined today so thought I'd say hi.

I'm a walker based in Plymouth who mostly walks on Dartmoor although have spent time in both the Brecon Beacons and the Lakes. Looking to organise my first trip up to Scotland in the near future, hopefully for next year's TGO which would be my first.

Recently had to call off a couple of walks due to shin splints so have begun to think much more seriously about shedding as much pack weight as possible which is how I ended up here.

Hi!

I joined a while ago (to be able to see the pictures) but never posted anything. It's time I said hello :)

I'm from Belgium and active on the French forum:
https://www.randonner-leger.org/forum/
I come here every once in a while to see what's new and smuggle the information accross the channel, it's nice to get out of the bubble (while ironically sitting in the same chair)

Also trying to reach the 5 messages to be able to reply without bothering the moderators :p

If you've just joined trek-lite.com, say hi and introduce yourself to the other members, you can be assured of a warm welcome.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, what you get up to and how you enjoy your time in the hills.
I’ve often looked at the site and enjoy the threads but have felt rather in awe of what folk do. I’ve cranky knees but I’m working on that (at the gym) and on lightening my load. I sometimes use a TrackMate, made by Patrick in Tasmania, which carries my sac; though I look rather odd, it means I can get out there and I’m also looking to see what I can do to camp with my Brompton. My grand daughter has inherited my camping gene, which is very nice for me but my last two dogs were previous companions and carried the tent or provisions. I want to continue now I’m on my own. Being in Cambridge, I’m drawn Northwards to hills and shall meet up with trekking Scottish friends whenever I can. I’m a sculptor, in wood for 40 years but now in clay, very small (as I’ve also got a cranky shoulder from wielding the mallet). I’ve also worked as an Infant teacher and Art Therapist. I’m going to try to develop shorter local ventures, rather than just pine for hills. I like dehydrating food for camping and I never tire of ‘gear’.

Hello! I'm from Bristol, enjoy cycletouring and backpacking, both solo and with friends. My silly name is cos someone once likened me to a bumblebee, always stopping to stick my nose into flowers and investigate plants!

Hello, I'm Jim, living in London for the last 2.5 years, originally from Alberta, Canada. I've lately been growing a bit tired of spending my weekends in the city so I started researching hiking/camping in the UK and came across this great website! I had some nice light camping gear back in Canada but it's of course all in storage 7000 km away so I'll be reading through the forum looking for information on affordable places to find gear and also advice on 2 or 3 day trips that are doable from London.

Hello everybody!

Im Raul, a spaniard living in Madrid, close to some beautiful mountains. I mainly do day trips, but whenever I can I do longer ones (7~30 days). Until now I only hiked here in Spain, wich could be the heaven of hikers: We have here stunning mountains like in Pyrenees or Picos de Europa, dry deserts in Bardenas Reales or even tropical forests in Canary Islands.

I really like making my own year, as a way of made gear that suits my needs. And is also cheaper (generally), so win/win.

Hi guys and gals. My name is Elton I live in Lincolnshire and like Beryl I'm in an ever evolving process to lighten my load. I love backpacking and wild camping and everything to do with these pastimes. I don't get out as often as I'd like what with everyday life (job, marriage, fatherhood) but I get out as often as I can even if its only to the local woodlands or coast. I've written a few posts on my blog but nothing spectacular :) I'm currently awaiting with growing impatience the arrival of my new shelter the Tarptent Stratospire 1, which is currently sat in Rotherham Parcelforce depot where it has been sat for several days now due to the fact Customs stamped a Duty upon it :( Hopefully tomorrow I'll receive written notification and be able to get my hands on it.
Anyway, I look forward to sharing experiences and thoughts with you!
Thought I'd see when exactly I first joined the Forum and crikey I'm surprised - 2014! Haven't been active on here in a long time until recently;surprised at how long I've had the Stratospire 1 (it's still my only shelter not counting my hex tarp); and I'm disappointed to say I haven't kept up with my Blog :banghead:

Oh and I still don't get out as often as I'd like :arghh:

Hi everyone! My name is George. I live in Michigan in the USA.

I just joined the forum because I plan to hike the Pacific Crest Trail next spring. My permit application has already been accepted. Since I am new to thru hiking, I am starting the planning phase to determine what I will need for food and equipment. I found this forum because I saw a post about long distance hiking on a low carb carnivore or Keto diet.

I am also interested in equipment. The advice that I get from friends do not seem to match with what is conventionally used.
