What have you bought?

How’s the sizing compared to the pulse? Same size in both?
So the Cormac arrived; it is pretty much the same as the Pulse fitting-wise - shoulders a little more snug (but mine are daft sized) so the arm length is better (for me) as this makes them a little shorter. Hood is pretty much the same size as the Pulse. The material feels heavier (it is) and stiffer with a less gentle hand but it is still at 'unboxing video' stage and has yet to be worn and washed: so it feels slightly more 'fitted'.
I'll give an update (maybe) when I have trashed it a bit in the Dolomites over the next weeks.

Can soon get around that with VPN.
Yes and no. You can see the ads whatever your IP is but you can't message the seller if your IP is not French. You can bypass that with a VPN but you'd then have to be pretty fluent in French and the vast majority of seller choose local pick-up or prepaid postage through the website which required a French credit card.

Looks good...what's the expected boost in temp and weight ?
Its meant to be +8 but we'll see, they've been bought for a specific wander i have coming up, whether they actually get used/are really required is debatable, but i plan on utilising them after as mat covers/sheets so i can sleep without sticking to the pad

(Another luxury item to add to the growing list of luxury items i seem to be accumulating)

with stuff sacks, one was 262g and (the wifes one :)) one is 265g,stuff sacks to be binned after the wander (£15 below retail and free P&P assisted the choice)

Just arrived - Columbia Outdry MESH - black, size L - 332g on my scales.

I have another Outdry jacket bought a few years ago - that is also a L but the MESH Large is quite a bit bigger. I am 6ft tall, quite broad with gibbon arms - I have plenty of room for layering inside this. and it has LONG sleeves :). I particularly mention the sizing as Chris Townsend has recently reviewed the MESH in TGO - if I recall correctly, he's around 5'8 and he tested a L. Chris reckoned you might have to size up if planning to wear more than just a base layer - I do not agree with this; I will easily be able to wear a medium wt. fleece or light puffy under the MESH.

My original Outdry definitely felt like a 3 layer "hardshell" - the MESH is very different, it is soft and quite similar to Shakedry.

The hood is definitely better on the MESH but still some way off those on Rab, ME, Arcteryx etc. To get a close fit, the side adjustments need to be on max tightness. But at least that is now possible on a Columbia jacket.

A jump up in weight too

MSR Pro Bivy - I have been looking for one of these for a while at a reasonable price. Light (280g), weather resistant and breathable. For late autumn and winter (snow) camping under my tarp. Should help to reduce the condensation as compared to my eBivy.

I have a couple and use them primarily to boost the kids’ sleeping bag ratings for Autumnal trips. I have tested them in cold conditions and they certainly helped but IMO, I think +8 is optimistic in terms of temp increase.
Good to know...thanks for the additional info...I guess even a couple of extra degrees is worth it, if it helps you sleep in the cold...

Well we all know who to tap if we're in need of mitten hooks in future

Curious what you're using them for/why you bough that amount?

They were only £1.14 and 2.31 ex vat ex P&P and when those were added to the top, those costs were proportionally high to the products themselves.

Same products on ebay/AMZ go for a few quid for a few clips, so I thought might as well stock up. Over time I've had all sorts of bits and pieces ordered from AE and eventually they've been used and have come in handy and eventually ran out.

No particular plans atm.

Just had an Alpkit Ordos 3 tent arrive and have just pitched it in the garden. It's a 3 person (or in our case 2 and a Labrador) tent that's 1850g (excluding the footprint) on my scales. It'd be tight for 3 I think but fine for our purpose - looking forward to giving it a go soon as it's a lot lighter than the Coleman Cobra 3 (which is excellent if heavy) we've used so far when camping with the dog.

Hi

Have you used the ordos 3 yet, how do you rate it

Got one of these as buying that quantity of 20d sil would probably not be cheaper and would definitely be a hassle.
I made a cat cut tarp for hammocking, but my son uses that so thought I'd get a second so I could join him. Unsure whether this has a cat cut ridge, sure I'll live either way 🙂

Cat cut ridges don't do anything worthwhile for hammock tarps imo. Edges are a different story.
