Sleeping bag cover

Was thinking of trying this again to prevent the footbox getting damp through the cold months.

Anyone using anything thats any good? - something that actually keeps the footbox dry.

Or maybe dwr spraying the footbox?

Thinking of cutting one of these down and adding an elasticated or drawcord hem.
I have one of those and and thinking of doing exactly what you are suggesting. Might sew a hem so I can slip some 2mm shock cord through it and connect that to the quilt attachments so it doesn't slip down.

Have you used one of the Flame Creed ones?... Did it work, no damp bag?

I wonder if you can buy similar Tyvek by the metre, it might be cheaper, rather than cutting up a finished product.

I'm at the same stage as you. "Thinking of cutting one of these down and adding an elasticated or drawcord hem." but I have one in my store here. I'll pull it out tomorrow and let you have a bit more information.

I have one of the Flames Creed centre zip tyvek covers, only used it the once in the back garden and it seemed ok.

I used the dust sheet one that I made (earlier in this thread) cut down to cover the footbox and it was useless. Footbox was wettest ever. Perhaps not at all beatheable after all.

Tried one of those tyvek bags too, did not work for me either. I then made a quilt out of 10den and 67 Apex. Worked perfect and was able to use a lighter bag. Made it simple with sewn in footbox, weight was around 370g but was able to use a bag 250g lighter. Also when first in tent I stay dressed and use the Apex quilt to keep warm and dry out. Down bag comes out when all dry and clean.

Where did you get it? Can you send some photos?

Tim Marshall at EE made the quilt for me, as a replacement for the one I got him to make for me many years ago. That was his first ever down quilt (I talked him into it and supplied the 900fp down to him). I specified the DWR material for the footbox and across the top edge on the original, and got DWR material again on the replacement. Pics later.

I've used rsbtr 7d wpb as outer layer on footbox of a down quilt, and as the whole outer in my apex 67 overbag. It has similar specs to pertex endurance, >1000mm HH and 7k breathability.
So far I've found it breathable enough.
One down side is I made the mistake of using on the inner and outer of the footbox so the quilt was reversible. Bright orange for cheer or black for stealth.
The penalty is that the footbox takes much longer to loft as the 7d is basically not air permeable.

Yup, I tried using my Exped Snozzle bag over the foot end, once. The SB just got very damp from 'body' moisture.

Yes that's my concern in finding something suitable. When I've tried solutions the bag ends up wetter from the lack of breathability in the barrier then from condensation and wall contact.

I was wondering if there was some spray on treatment that would work.

Think i'll try that next time @cathyjc - Squamish is a bit dwr but breathable, if that doesn't work i don't think covers will.

The inner is 220cm with sloping end wall, pretty standard length. Its not really an issue worth changing a tent over.

Here it is. I don't know what the DWR material is, but water beads on it nicely. I don't bother with a cover. Extra long/wide quilt weight is 545g. 900fp down. Warm to around freezing point with a 350g XL down jacket added.

My quilt is covered in Pertex® Quantum DWR but if it gets wet you end up rolling the wet in with it so it can soak through all day. I was thinking that having a cover or windshirt :) over it would mean that you can separate the damp from the down.
