I'm just very particular in what I want, I know pretty much immediately if something is t suitable

Sadly most my hobbies have been ones where you have to mail order everything.

So it's the only way to try stuff.

Glad I amuse you, but I've ignored you now, 👍👍

Like with your coffee hobby, and those before it, they’ll always be one more new thing that will compel you with the hope of unachievable perfection. It will only pause when you find another hobby to fixate on.

Get out and do multi-day hike. If you can, do a longer one. And maybe do more than one. After a few days the mind will begin to calm, and perspective will return.

That’s the one thing all those YouTubers eventually recognise.

Just hike.

its a massive character flaw i have i obsess i know i do, thats just who i am, im also compassionate and try my best to help people,

getting out is hard to do when you run your own business - i work 6 days a week, have two kids and a wife, have a child who atm who is really struggling with the transition to high school after many failed attempts at getting him help when younger, ( we believe hes on the spectrum) life is just hard, and the younger ones got epilepsy, can be a lot of weight on a frozen shoulder :hungry:

I’m not so sure your ADHD will allow that.
I would recommend obsessing over planning the route, finding all water sources just to be sure, downloading 3 apps and crosschecking them with paper maps and then dont' forget to make a calories spreadsheet.
Still hiking obsession, but now much easier for a wallet and consequences (new things that may not work are worse than old things that actually work, in practise, especially if are at a point of deminishing returns weight-wise).

Oh yes, planning is a REALLY good one to get lost in the weeds with.

But you’ve got to remind yourself to just do it and get out there sometimes.

Sounds like a lot, but where’s the compassion for yourself? Try and give yourself permission to take a break from it all and go hike.

I cant give myself a permission, im under oath 🤔
I cant even really even let my job go, unless my leave is accepted.
So my vacations are planned a year ahead, and sometimes i just cant' go.

does it matter if your fat? :wideyed: asking for a friend...
yes, even more so, as you need energy to carry your fat too, and cannot use it, really.
Fat stores become relevant when thruhiking, for a normal person.
People who can burn fat in the short run are both genetical and training anomalies, in practise it only applies to amateur and higher endurance athletes.

Easy to see that the trip reports section is pretty inactive compared to anything to do with buying new gear. Many on the forum likely spend more time in endless research than actually outdoors. But the nature of lightweight hiking is in the name.. you are always on the look out for ways to lighten the load.

I'll post a few pics but too lazy to do a trip report plus a lot of my trips are pretty unremarkable these days even if I enjoy them greatly.

Ultralight hiking is mostly about buying and optimising gear. Then in the UK the gear is used for day hikes in Dartmoor or similar rather than what it's actually meant for.

It's just a different category of luxury goods. With some you're sold the fantasy of becoming like a young, wealthy Parisian even though you're 50 and live in Sheffield. In our case the dream being sold is the long-distance hikes that will never happen.

Pretty sad but is it any different to lots of products.

Such a sad defeatist approach to life, reading that has made me feel really down. If you want your dreams to come true all you have to do is make then happen. If you want to go on a long distance hike you just need to plan and execute it. What are you waiting for?

Ditto. I just can’t be ar$€d with the effort of a trip report most of the time and tend to think, who would be interested anyway?

When I’m sat at home, rather than rot my brain watching trash on the tv, I’m more inclined to post about gear and such…..
