Light or Not So Light Pack Thread

If you bought a Garmin adapter for one of your other cables, you could save another 10g!
They all add up... I didn't know there was an add on adapter 🤔 summat to consider as I could be happier knowing I had the original to come home to 👍

I'll be honest... Seeing the entire base weight, kind of skeeers me.
I've been doing some steady training with the pack and it's comfort hides the weight... At least for a few miles.

Scary thing is... There's still fuel to add, lotions and potions, phone weight, water weight, filter and bag weight....

The biggest hits seem to be the shelter with poles and the bag itself.
I added a DIY stiffener to the frame sheet and may have gone a bit Jacobs with the gaffa tape 🤦🏼‍♂️ I'm going out for a few peaky miles to get a feel of how it carries over rough ground with the stiffener.

The other big hit is the mains charger... Charging opportunities may be more miss than hit. Ive tried to reason with myself that at least swmbo doesn't have to carry a charger and we can charge or top up both phones, watch and powerbank quickly, instead of burning daylight in a village and spending money in a cafe.

The torch is a bit of a lump, but I know it will see us through the trip without needing a charge and is reliable.

Cutting out a pair of socks and a pair of gruds might be an option as I've tested the breifs, using one pair for a solid week. Using the bidet is more hygienic and there will be plenty of opportunities to swim/bathe and launder the 2nd pair of socks.

The VFF and their associated toe socks might be left behind or swapped out for a different pair.

Our carry on bags and checked in luggage transporter bag, will be left in a locker... That would bust me humping those around.

Polycro sheet might get left at home, but I've not used the xmid inner enough to know how resilient it is?

Edit....
I will leave the bug pants and socks... The picaridin has worked well for me in the past and the vertice pants are light enough and breathable enough to be worn around camp if needed.

I find analysing my lists for a few grams here and there soul destroying (I know I've done it enough...).

My base weight now sits at 6kg, for walking, 1 or 2 nights like I do, its fine. Eating the non FD food supply gives a nice and noticeable next day reduction. I've gave up discarding and swopping out to save 300g - i dont notice it.

If i wanted to get closer to UL i know it needs something more radical, changing the big 3 etc, leaving the spare socks in itself just wont cut it.

Maybe have a think about what weight you would really be happy with for this trip?...5kg base?...the changes required become more obvious.

No harm in fine tuning i suppose but i wouldn't get hung up on the grams, and your wife will be grateful you take the spare socks and pants...

20g for USB C, with micro USB and Garmin adaptors on retaining cord. It saves a bit of weight (and cord tangle) but of course you can then only charge one item at a time.
The small items do add up for me, my first aid kit for example seems rather heavier than most, but at least I have this item fairly well tuned...

On a shorter solo trip..
I'd go for that... Don't think I'd risk a single Cable failure for both of us on an extended trip. Definately to be added on UL and SUL treks though 👍 Cheers

Good point - I'd never considered cable failure. I've never had a USB cord fail, do you know if it is fairly common? I have had several problems with the Garmin leads - the spring pins can get stuck and sometimes need freeing to work again.

Not so much with oem ones or well regarded brands, but I have had it happen with high use cables. Oddly enough, less often with usb-c cables.
