Atom Packs

For those who have an Atom, how comfortable do you find it ? Tempted to get one, my BW is around 8lb
I have a 40L Atom+ and I think it is the most comfortable pack I own. Obviously not identical to the Atom but I don't use the hip belt much, so comparable apart from the carbon stays.

My Atom 40 is very comfortable is very comfortable for to 2 - 3 day trips (base weight somewhere around 10 - 11lb) that are my usual walks. If I ever do succeed in getting over to the PCT I'll probably go to an Atom+ for the extra load carrying ability.

Like mine; but it is heavily customised.
Better than my Burn....yep as it has the specs I asked for.
In terms of carry comfort, not a lot of difference.

...but, the under pocket, shoulder strap pockets...pffft, nah, too constricting/areas for wear and damage...

I like the bottom pocket, find it is the perfect place to stash a map where it is easy to get at.

Think I'm going to have to get an Atom+ , it ticks most of the boxes.
One question someone may be able to answer - would a Scarp fit in one of the side pockets?

I recently watched the demo video on this and I thought that the side pockets could be better if they had a box bottom rather than the way they are gathered in. The Liteway Ekementum has a box foot to the side pockets and the full volume is available right down to the bottom of the pocket.

Hopefully someone with a Scarp can answer more definitively, but the similarly sized Stratospire 1 does fit. According to Tarptent the Scarp pack size is a little larger / thicker so I suspect it is likely to fit, though may be a little tight. I've also carried the Stratospire in my Atom+ on the inside and on the top with a V strap (better than a single strap for security).

My experience, which may not be relevant as it is for an early Framed atompack.

The way Tom makes his pockets and gathers them in at the bottom, meant that the pockets on my 1st bag were basically useless.
I specifically asked that the pockets be suitable for a Strat-1 and when the pack arrived, that's the first think I tried and it fitted fine. Then I packed the main compartment, and suddenly the Strat would not fit at all, once the main compartment was packed, the pockets were tight as a tiger and pretty much useless. The pack was returned and a new one built with flat bottomed pockets, which works just fine.

I am sure designs have been tweaked since then, I am not sure how much custom work atom do these days, but I would really stress to Tom when ordering that the pockets need to be suitable for carrying a tent when the main compartment is packed full.

I managed to find a photo of a Stratospire 1 in the side pocket of an Atom+. It will have been put in after loading the rest of the pack. The pockets do gather at the bottom but I've not found this a problem.

Hyberg is the only other 'possible', but it's the absence of frame versus the Atom+'s frame (albeit minimal) which makes me hesitate.

On Liteway Elementum the box is just the result of a different fold. I wonder if Atompacks Tom could be persuaded to do something similar. Silnylon Notch fits perfectly into one of these pockets.

I've only used my Aguila for two (quite arduous) days and with it not loaded to capacity and it's been fine with a Omm Duomat for support.AE5711F7-5EFF-4384-86D3-36E4675F8538.jpeg

Given a generous enough cut you can get a good approximation of a box pocket
