Cumulus Quilt 350

Trade deal with the USA, now that would be nice.
I wouldn't get your hopes up. Turkey has a customs agreement with the EU, but it doesn't stop VAT and duties on private purchases. It's businesses that would benefit, I suspect.

i'll take that for a kickoff, i spend more $ in a month than £s :D

@cathyjc im not in favour of private NHS but something needs to change as its on its last legs. Personally id like to see a means tested access fee similar to the prescription fee but more. Im sure at some point the funding need will vastly outstrip supply. Some tough choices coming down the track i think.

Sure. Hubby works for the doctors union - all too aware of the issues.

Looks like they went for a constant taper rather than starting it roughly half way down. Disappointing...

It opens up flat as a blanket, I think that would limit how easily you could do a taper design.

Looking at them I'd go with the taiga quilts, the baffles are oriented/ sectioned in a way I think would work better. The 480 seems optimistically rated at -14c comfort

I've used the "old" 450 quilt for a while and would rate it at -5° comfort. If I remember correctly, I didn't even need additional clothing at this temperature. The 480 should do at least the same; the -14° comfort is only if you use it together with the underquilt 450.

Ah, that makes sense. My 400 myog 850fp quilt I'd take to a bit under freezing. Is it me or do higher FP down items loose their loft more quickly than lower FP stuff. After 5 mins in the tumble dryer mine has lofted up full again and I was only out two nights with a little dew. Tempted to stuff another 30-40g of down in, would still be under 600g.

I used my Cumulus Quilt 350 the other day and the night-time temperature was 2 deg C. I reckon the comfort rating is about right, though I was using a summer sleeping mat, so I had to wear a lightweight fleece. I notice that they seem to have changed the fixing system for the quilts, two fabric (or elastic) bands instead of shock-cord.

So if I'm looking to get my first quilt, would you guys recommend me going for the old or new 350 or the Taiga 480? Seems like the new quilts are very similar to their comforters?

It depends on what you are going to use it for @Maxplosive. I would email Cumulus, Ania Chabowska (Customer Services) she is really helpful and I'm sure would advise you.

I have no experience of the Taiga 480 but its designed for hammock use. If you are using a quilt in a tent with a sleeping mat, I'm not sure how you would fix it. The new Cumulus Quilt 350 opens up more than the previous and is a smidge heavier because it has a zip. I've had no issues with my older Quilt 350 with a fully enclosed foot box, my feet have always been toasty. I'm not sure how good the new version is with a drawcord, it looks a bit like the Alpkit Cloudcover quilt, which doesn't stay on my feet quite so well as the Cumulus.

The new Quilt 350 also looks as if it has a better fixing system, with straps that go around the sleeping pad, I was never happy with the shock-cord arrangement on the old version (I devised my own system). I've just ordered a new-style fixing kit for my old quilt, they are not technically compatible but Cumulus say it is fairly simple to modify for my quilt.

Just ordered the new 350, I like the idea of being able to open it up completely when it's quite warm

Thought they would sell them now with hydrophobic Down, regarding the EE quilt (hole in the winter)
I use the Chinese camp booties. But surprised of the blatant EE copy of straps and zip system.

Hydrophobic down is an option if you contact them 1Euro per 10g of Down so for the standard 350 it would be an additional 35Euro. They also offer a few fabric and colour choices now if you contact them. @Mike Bright found this out and I will be contacting them shortly about a new 350

I'm pretty sure EE weren't the first to put a zip on a sleeping system, or even a quilt. I saw quilts on hammock forums with zips long before EE put them on.

The straps I'm not sure of but it's just a strap with flat clips.

Haven’t MLD, used a pad to quilt strap system since day one? A mates ZPacks has a similar setup too but I think she modded that herself
