Pillow attachments

Seeing as i’m doing not much at home i thought i’d revisit my ideas about attaching straps to my pillows to stop them moving about during the night and irritating the jaysus outa me.

I have a therm a rest compressible pillow which is great but weighs a tonne but it’s my fave. i was thinking of attaching loops to the corners to connect shock cord and a toggle. i was thinking that i could use cam snaps just to secure the loops, would this work? Or is there a better way?

My other pillows are the inflatable types, would the cuben patches with loops on them that paul sells on treadlite work? If not what else would work?

Having a pillow that is comfy and doesn’t move about too much is essential for me or i’m like a bear with a sore head ... and neck in the morning!!

Has anyone come up with any other methods to solve this problem?

Cheers
K :)

The tip I heard, if you have a spare t shirt or jacket is to slide it over the top of your mat and put your pillow under it. Not tried it yet but sounds good to me.
Tried that but wasn’t the best and just stretched the the t shirt.

I use a Buff with a circle of bungy cord threaded trough it. Slide the Buff over the inflated pillow, then slide the cord over the sleeping mat, position and tension the cord (I use a cord lock for this). This works well for me, but I use Neoair mats which have horizontal baffles and hold the cord in place.

Don’t think my big compressible will fit inside a buff, but i’ll dig one out and give that idea a bash :) Do buffs come in different sizes?

Almost certainly. They stick to Neoair and Klymit sleeping mats and the Klymit X-pillow, for sure.

Cuben patches stick well to most inflatable pads.....for the S2S UL pillow I made MYO patch/ loop & glued it on with Seamgrip.

I use a 27g pillowslip with grosgrain loops to 4 corners and two bungees to tighten behind the mat. Pretty similar to Robert p except I found I wasn’t using a buff for anything except being a pillow slip so decided to bring an actual pillow slip instead and leave the buff at home.

@Clare I thought using a Buff for this would be dual use but in practice I found the same as you - its been used for nothing other than for the pillow! @Nevis - I suspect all Buffs are the same diameter (so they fit on the head) but may have widely varying amounts of stretch

Yes exactly! What’s the point of a buff. So many uses, but no good at any of them. Specially if you like hoodies.

Well I sometimes use a Buff as hat or neck gaiter, but having attached some cord and cord lock that are difficult to remove this makes it even less likely I'll make the effort to use it. I'm probably deluding myself by thinking that in case of emergency it is there...

I use buffs as neckgaiter, and as lower half of a sort if balaclava setup with a cap. sleepwear in winter, pillow case as described...

Ruth wears them pretty much constantly outside most days. As hair band and/or neck sunscreen.

I tried that on one of my lockdown garden camps and it worked well. Simple idea.

Don't know, depends on the cover material .......the S2S UL pillow has a fluffy covering hence the MYO/ Seamgrip solution.
Yeah that sounds the same. Could I be cheeky enough and ask for a couple of patches to be made up? That's if it's not too much trouble.
I've got some seam grip.

No problem...send me your name/ address & I'll see if I can get something in the post later in the week.

No need to attach the thready stuff -carry it loose as I do and just put a shoe lace knot in it each night. It will hold.

I had a buff, but ended up preferring a really cheap thin fleece neck tube. Always take it. Under 30g.
