How are you travelling? It shows at £100 return via citylink for me. Probably takes a similar amount of time as flying to Cape town though.
avanti to Glasgow then citylink. unless i want to spend extra 5 hours in a bus, on top of already lengthy trip.

I mean it's cheaper to go to any European destination too.
I don’t know who operates the flights to Skye from your chosen departure point but generally speaking I’d imagine the cape town route has economies of scale that Skye can’t match. I’ve never done SA but I’d imagine cape town is a hub. I don’t imagine sky to be a hive of activity flight wise. It’s more overturned campers and 4 hour traffic jams

So yeh, can someone explain how UK ended in a situation where the next night return ticket to Cape Town costs 650 pounds, and return trip to Skye £400?
Rather than ruminating over inscrutable National Rail pricing, if those are your two options, head south! Sun-downer drinks in the bay, visit Stellenbosch, Hermanus, the Cape, maybe one of the game reserves?

I haven't been to Skye and it's surely lovely, but whether it's worth tolerating the extra effort and crowds versus Knoydart or the Cairngorms seems debatable to me. SA and Kruger was easily a top-10 travel experience for me and you might only get one chance.

Just hoping V&P don't send my Evernew ti UL 600ml unboxed and wrapped in crepe paper 😁
I ordered an Evernew 570 from Amazon US and it was sent by the seller in a clear plastic bag. Needless to say it looked like someone had taken a baseball bat to it.

Fortunately Amazon refund as soon as the return is in transit

Did you try Inverness, then on to Skye? If you're coming from the east that's usually the most economical. I'm near Edinburgh so it's always the best option for me.
I live next door to Euston station, sadly. Hence 20 hour trips to the Highlands.

I think you exaggerate. Whilst it can sometimes need an overnight it's usually possible to get there in a day from London. I live further from the Highlands than London and can easily get to Inverness in a day by train, and if I had a lift from there or hitched I'd be in the mountains same day.

A train from kings cross to Inverness takes about eight hours? Then it's 2 hours to Kyle of Lochalsh. (Various mountain stops before then)
For interest I just had a look on the train line app.
If you wanted to go tomorrow morning you could get to Kyle by 8.30pm leaving latest at 9am for £200. If you were prepared to leave at 5:48 a.m. you could do it for £148.

Edit. And it appears if you took one of the two earlier trains you could also catch the bus to Ullapool that same day.

But if you did have to overnight in Inverness, I really like the Black Isle hostel not far from the station. It has good facilities and the Black Isle Brewery Bar below does great pizzas and of course excellent beer

Re Hydrapak - quite a few reviews mention the same undrinkable water experience that I had; here's what Hydrapak said re the Seeker:

I apologize for the bad-taste issue! As a leading provider of performance hydration, any issue with our product is taken seriously. Our products are made from a food-grade thermo-plastic urethane (TPU). We have used this material since 2001 and it is used by many of our competitors. It is the industry standard because of its food-safe properties and its durability.
TPU is BPA free and non-toxic. Unfortunately, a small percentage of flasks have an unpleasant taste, which varies from person to person. Please try to following to reduce the taste issue:
1) Fill the container up with water and add a few drops of lemon juice. Then place into your freezer and let it freeze overnight. Then thaw it out and rinse. The taste should be diminished.
2 ) If that does not work, you can fill the container up with milk and place into the refrigerator for 24 hours. Then clean and dry the bottle. This should also help.
If this still does not mitigate the bad taste, please fill out a warranty claim here and we would be happy to replace your product for you:
i had exactly the same problem with a 2l seeker about 18 months ago.. vile taste, tried everything (well, I’m sure there will be more suggestions to my list) but white vinegar, weak bleach mix, lemon juice, sterilising tablets, bicarbonate of soda, lemon juice and freezer as above. Eventually the retailer acted as the middleman and contacted hydrapak and they authorised a new one which had no issues.
