    Garmin InReach Mini. I don't actually want one but Turkey has started bringing in checks on people doing "mountaineering". I'm having trouble finding details but it appears their definition of "mountaineering" is very wide and includes even people out for a daytime stroll. Reading between the lines (or those that I can find!) it looks as if having a satellite communicator will help you to be looked upon favourably.

    It seems to go back to the winter before last when two people got lost in fog on Uluda─č (a popular ski resort) and froze to death. I think there was some criticism of the authorities and this is their knee-jerk overreaction. It does fit in with their general philosophy re the relationship between the authorities and the public, though.

    The PLB I have (McMurdo FastFind) doesn't communicate in any way with the satellites or broadcast a position unless you fire it up in an emergency.

    Well, a few years ago a law was passed making it illegal to cover the lower half of your face in public so we're already at risk when we go out wearing a mask (as another law mandates) :o o:
