I have an inner. Just without a zip.

Sorry, must have missed that. I saw you're planning to use a mosquito net which I wouldn't class as a decent inner unless you can properly seal it and seat/eat inside it!

Even with a decent inner the midges are horrendous. Which reminds me, you might want to consider taking a mosquito coil for when you inevitably wake up surrounded by midges. Don't use a whole one just light a small bit of it and chuck it out of the inner to clear your tent.

Socks: I'm taking the watreproof socks for after I get to base camp and hav cleaned/dried/treated fet etc and want to walk about I don't have to put wet socks back on or put dry socks in wet shoes. Also will be putting these on in I know it's going to be raining all day.

I saw, but you asked people to give you their views (not just reinforce your views!). It is entirely your choice what you're prepared to suffer with!

Bank: Addressed this earlier. I use a lot of power and I'm laving a in a few days so don't have time or want to buy a 10k PD bank. I may get one for future use though depending on how much I use of the 26800mah

Amazon do decent Anker powerbanks which you can get in 24 hours in most places. I was charging an Iphone XR, Inreach Mini, NU25, Ipods (plus occasionally an Ipad Mini or Kindle) off a 10000mAh power bank and I wasn't exactly being sparing using the phone for some maps and photos. If you're eating in pubs then you'll easily find places to charge. Again your choice but you did ask!

Phone/Wallet etc are not part of base weight. I have to firmly disagree. Base weight is things in my pack minus consumables. Phon and wallrt will be in my pocket or chest pack. They're not part of ba wight for sam reason cloths are not (IMO).

Disagree all you want, you're still carrying them! I'd rather have my phone and wallet securely in my pack personally. A chest pack and contents are definitely part of your base weight otherwise you might as just well say your backpack isn't part of your base weight!

Thanks I'll have a look.

Btw, after seeing that video by Colin I'm considering taking an inner instead.

I know, I was simply explaining my reasoning for my decision not discounting. Some views I have taken on board and changed my mind. Just not this one/yet.

That's true but I decided to take this one so I can see just how much I use/need. I use quite a lot of power, not just during the day with photo/video/podcast/GPS/Internet but also on the night with movies/tv (possibly) and don't want to risk running low and then not finding power plug or them not accommodating me by plugging in for me etc. Plus I'm short on cash on leave in a few days so want to save what I have for food/beer ;)

Plus, once I've used half the battery it will weight half as much right? :rolleyeses:

Again I disagree/have different opinion. I prefer to have my phone and wallet outside my pack in pocket or septate pack. Your "base weight" is your pack base weight. Hence you don't include your worn clothes or even consumables that are actually INSIDE the pack in the weight.

🤔 So do you include things in the rucksack side pockets and front pockets?... Lid pockets?... Where do you draw the line?

I quite clearly draw the line at the pack as I have stated lol.

Anything inside whether in main compartment or side pockets is the pack base weight (Except consumables). My worn clothes and anything in my hands/pockets like my card and phone is isn't part of my "pack" base weight as they will be permanently either in my troos, chest pocket or hand.

Do you count your Watch as base weight? Or if you don't wear one, if you did, would you?

So not a chest pocket... but maybe shoulder strap pockets......

I would count my watch if i kept it in a chest pocket... :D

Dont worry nobody cares anyway

I meant chest pack or fanny pack. If it was in my chest pocket or strap pocket I would count it.

This whole thing can get really confusing/grey areas

Skin out weight is the only statistic you need to worry about. That's the weight of everything less your naked self.

Wouldn't go camping in Scotland without Tiger coils except in winter.

Tiger coils?

Was in Glen Coe last weekend although not as bad as Colins video the midges were terrible. Treat yourself. Stay in the kings house.

The weights are with the liquid not empty.
just remembered this.

What I meant was, is that your 15ml containers seemed heavy for what they are even when filled.

e.g.
15ml soap @26g gross

I just weighed 20ml of liquid soap in it's bottle with a chunky lid and it's 25g.
If liquid soap is similar density to water (not an unreasonable assumption) that would make your bottles twice as heavy as they need to be.

It really doesn't really matter at all, it, just struck me as anomalous, which is why I mentioned it.

Just weighed empty one and they're 6g each.

Here is link to the bottles..

your soap etc must be denser than mine. 😝

either that or the bottles are in reality larger than 15ml. which wouldn't surprise me.

either way it doesn't matter. - if bothered you could always slip them into your pocket

Okay folks excuse the ignorance - these coils - what's it all about?
Are they safe inside a tent? Do they light with a match or is a more powerful lighter needed? What's the best position to place them in? The only brands I can find (UK) are Raid, Coghlans and Lifesystems - are they as good as Tiger? There are citronella coils as well - are they as effective against midges?

Tiger coils are just a brand name, a bit like calling all vacuum cleaners Hoover, I'm not even sure if they're still made.

Light a small piece and put it in your tent, give a few minutes and there will be no midgies in your tent. There no good out in the open the smoke will just blow away.
