Anker Nano is renamed Anker Nano Pro with more colours, but more interestingly, there's a Anker Nano Pro Dual in the pipeline that will have 2 ports with output of 40W.

Didn't see a thread for news, so here goes.

Anker Nano II released in the US. Let's hope we get UK versions too.

New Kickstarter campaign for earphones. What makes these interesting from hiking perspective is that they are no in-ear, but rather close to the ear, which allows the user to hear what's going on around him/her. They are wireless, use BT5.2 and have up to 16h battery life on a single charge and can be used individually. I've been looking and bought a few earphones trying to find a one that works for me. I have wired which are light, but the wire tends to get tangled up. I also have wireless ones but having them in-ear makes my ears itch after couple of hours and I don't want to wear big over the ear headphones. I might just give these a try.

Skurka is using Zoleo, which is coming to UK later this year. However, it's only available in handful of countries atm so not use for someone who hikes internationally.

Next iPhone might have satellite connectivity for emergencies.

Moreover, Gurman claimed that Apple is still working on bringing satellite connectivity features to the ‌iPhone‌. Apple purportedly intended to introduce the feature with the iPhone 13 models, but the new functionality could be ready this year for the ‌iPhone 14‌ lineup. The satellite connectivity features are designed to report emergencies and send short texts to emergency contacts when no cellular service is available.

The rumor is said to be supported by satellite company Globalstar Inc. reaching an agreement to buy 17 satellites to support "continuous satellite services" for a "potential" unnamed client that had paid it hundreds of millions of dollars. Gurman recently reported that the Apple Watch is also set to get satellite connectivity features in 2022 or 2023.

Anyone who's bought GoPro in the past knows that they offer their subscription service as a way to have the device at a great discount. I had my subscription coming to an end and since I'm not really planning to buy a new GoPro unless something truly remarkable comes out, I thought I cancel it. I started the cancellation process and eventually got an offer for 50% off the subscription, which will come in handy if you're planning to buy a new GoPro which are usually released in the autumn.

Game changer for safety on trail. Downside for escaping the modern world.

It's for T-mobile in the US for now, but since it doesn't require additional tech on a phone, it should be easily adoptable by other carriers as well. The speed is very slow on a shared bandwidth, which should reduce the interference of the modern world.

Maybe not in the immediate future but some way down the road - InReach will be redundant .
I won't miss the monthly subscription but just how expensive will the calls on smartphone via satelite cost ? - not cheap I should imagine.

That’s probably the catch. However if it’s just for emergencies then a one off charge is worth it.

If you look at T-Mobile’s announcement last week on Starlink, you’ll see the signal will be good enough for text and limited data transmission. So that should replace current inReach functionality really quickly.

All the major telco’s have invested in Starlink or it’s competitors, so expect this to roll out very very soon. Just don’t expect to be streaming video all along the PCT for a fair few years.
