Sit Pad

After 30 years of good service my Karrimor sit pad ( originally a foam back panel in a Hot Rock 30) has let me down.

What are other people using now?

Just a warning on some of the super cheap ones on Ebay and Amazon may not be waterproof. I kneeled on a cheap Amazon one and it sucked the water from the ground straight to my knees. No use at all.

I also bought a cheap one that folds into a cube a bit like @Heltrekker 's above and its fine.

I stick with Multimat now.

I have one of these from AliExpress that cost me about £1. They are 27cm x 4x10cm panels. Mine weighs 28g but if I was being really weight tight I could probably make do with 3 panels so 21g.

They a) squish down quite flat in a fairly short time and b) bits of sharp vegetation soon stick thru' rendering them "leaky".
I found out about the latter one evening when camped in a bog (as usual) and wondered why my bum was wet after I'd been sitting making supper .

I've not been using mine much, I decided I'm just going to use the foil/foam mat linked to above as it is multi use. I've been carrying it rolled which is not good in the wind as you have to unroll and then fold into a "seat". So need to fold it before I take it out next.

They tend to take a fold well.

Foil backed radiator insulation - either the bubble wrap or polystyrene type, I haven't decided which is best. The polystyrene eventually squashes and gets too thin, but the bubblewrap is a bit heavier. I carry a sleeping mat sized piece to use under my mat at night anyway. Folded up it makes a toasty warm sitmat, and unfolded there's room for a couple of others to join you, and its still quite warm!

Forgot to mention that it is also is my foot pad inside my top quilt when in a hammock so a bit of give is nice. Do the tar Z seat ones feel stiffer than ccf and foam?

Like Whiteburn I just cut up piece of the old CCF (10mm) mat-cut to fit my own, little, khyber :whistling:.
Found it out in the bush. It's also cut so it will slide inside my outer mesh pocket unfolded, for sitting whilst on smoko. I find those commercial khyber mats too thick and take up too much space.

I use my z-seat under my feet in my hammock when i'm using my partial length underquilt and don't think they are any stiffer, softer if anything. More forgiving underfoot than the cheap ones, i guess you are paying the hefty price tag for premium materials.
If i lost mine i'd buy another.

As a hammocker you are probably are aware of the term "S.P.E" ?
A friend of mine was supposed to be giving me the left over pieces from his full length z-pad which he cut down. I was planning a form of S.P.E for the sides of my x-lite when ground dwelling for when my arms dangle off.
Hope that makes sense :)

S.P.E For the non-hammockers is a Pad Extender made by Spear
:geek: "Wings" if you like.

My local Decathlon and Go Outdoors had no stock of any sit pads yesterday to have a feel of.
What's the main advantage of the Z seat type over flat ccf?

probably not a lot tbh

its snobbery for me, i tend to turn up my nose at anyone who appears with an inferior cheap copy, definitely wouldn't converse with them unless they expressed extreme jealously at the fact i had one.

my wife has the newer Blue/Silver version, we dont speak anymore
