Perhaps he wasn't too keen on someone with 26yrs experience pointing out the error of his ways . On a more serious note though I notice he was going to ignore (delete) negative comments. That to me shows the measure of the man. By the way I've probably got about 50yrs experience and I still make mistakes.

I've just had another look at MCMs video and the other end of the Scarp ie the undamaged end looks like the crossing poles are attached to the velcro straps so perhaps the poles broke free on the windward end. Just an observation .Anyway hope they get it sorted.

i might tune in to the live chat 'featuring henry' 🤦‍♂️, just for a giggle.
reading through some yt comments last night Tony's admitted pitching fault and all they are arguing about now is henrys initial email reply, putting the blame on someone tripping over the guy and the fact thay hilleberg apologised straight off and are sending free replacement pole sections.

This weeks episode of Chasing Darwin:
A man goes camping in very strong wind.
Man is outraged when wind and possible user error wrecks tents. Man blames others for poor decision to camp in those conditions. Man isn’t strong enough to accept fault and blocks people who disagree with him. Man will be back posting more videos because the internet is weird and rewards stupidity. Man’s ego is restored.

Next episode:
Man gets drunk on a hill and hauled off by Mountain Rescue despite 26 years of drinking experience. Man is outraged when an invoice comes his way.

I'd call it Darwinists, as per the BBC show Detectorists.

The lives of three eccentric wild camping darwinists, who spend their days plodding along rocky tracks and open hills, hoping to disturb the tedium by unearthing the YouTube fame of a lifetime.

You would think if you were going to do this storm test nonsense you would be more thorough, like actually setting up the tent correctly, maybe double pegging/guying etc.

I think its a bit crap that they sensationalised the failure then when their user error was pointed out, they're now suggesting their grief was in respect of Henry's initial response and not the tent.

Popular media trick, controlling the narrative by gaslighting the watchers.

In your screenshot, the poles don't appear to be correctly set up.
Edit: I see that it wasn't you who claimed that it did, sorry.

As some who shares vids on YouTube too, I document my mistakes. Its part and parcel of hiking and camping. People appreciate honesty too.

The second video from Ant, caught MCM on the hop I think. As it showed the errors of the Scarp pitch. It didn't help when the post appeared on the Henry Shires FB group about the damage and customer service, or lack off. Plus slagging of Tarptent in the comments, putting people off a potential purchase from Tarptent. Bonkers how these things grow arms and legs.

I have had this problem for twenty years in various forums that when I pointed out a tent was not set up correctly inevitably the first reaction would be to still blame the product and then me for pointing out the error. The problem is that many ,on Google search and the like, don't bother to read the follow up so the first impression remains (mud sticks...)
The exact same thing happened in my working life with cameras. No , it was never user error, was always the camera. Particularly tragic in the digital era when I could instantly prove that the camera was in fact working...
Of course gear does at time fail but at other times yes user error is indeed possible.
With tents my favourite comment is from people that think their tent failed because a peg or two popped out.
BTW, yes I have tripped over my guylines a couple of times but my best trick was to walk barefooted over a peg. You would think that after the first two or three times I would remember but no , I had to perform that again .

It's perhaps worth stating that Tarptents are at the lighter end of the weight range for backpacking tents. This means that, in common with most ultralight kit, they are designed with low weight as a priority, sacrificing a degree of robustness to achieve that weight loss. Effective performance is consequently 'refined' to be available when used and maintained correctly, otherwise failure (sometimes catastrophic) can be expected. Some YouTube reviewers appreciate this, but others seem not to.

Retraction by the owner on youtube. Accepts responsibility. I think the main issue was not using a tracking pole on the centre guy out. Looks like all the force is in one direction as opposed to the use of a trekking pole to lift the direction of pull so the force is even.

Yep. Credit for admitting it was probably user error. As @RobH said, it looks like not using a trekking pole for the lifter was the main issue.
