I don't even know what a PLB is. Oh, and you forgot the GPS!
A PLB is a TLA, just like a GPS!
I'm slightly bemused how little use some of you guys get from your phone batteries. With my phone in flight mode with regular viewranger/ camera use, and half an hour in the evening online sending WhatsApp photos, messages and the like, the battery routinely lasts a week or longer between charges. I just did three long days on the Llyn Peninsula (with more than usual use, cause we were comparing Garmin watch GPS trackers) and still had 74% when we got back to the car.
The radios, sensors and background nonsense installed on phones are the big battery killers. Flight mode takes care of the former and ten minutes in the settings disabling pointless stuff helps with the latter.
Viewranger power saving mode is essential - if you are tracking your route. But I use a watch for that.
Totally agree - in fact I'm looking forward to taking a break from being continuously connected. And I've never gone down the GPS route - I'm an old-school paper map user.
Just remembering the old days though - the announcements that used to appear at the end of Radio 4 news - "Would Mr X, currently holidaying in the Norfolk Broads, please get in in touch with his family, it's about his mother, who is dangerously ill..."
And having to take physical books, which once finished become dead weight. I remember thinking during one trip about twenty years ago, how I wished someone would invent a portable device to read books on. And a few years later, they did! So there's a few upsides...
Have had several phones over the last decade, none would have got close to a week's use like that. What phone are you using?
At the moment, a Samsung M31.
The 6000 mAh battery won't do any harm!
Lol. It does help. Lots of phones have batteries that size or larger now tho. The M51 goes up to 7000mah.
Sure, but I'd wager the average battery capacity of people here is less than 4500 mAh and the people who can only eke out 3-4 days even less!
It's another Trek-Lite Achievement!
