PIF duscussion thread

What Rog says makes sense otherwise you're not only giving something away for free you are coughing up postage too.
That will put folk off imo...
Yes, it does but on the same vein you are paying for postage at some point anyway, why complicate it transferring funds?

I thought that was the whole point: the postage you pay for the item you send is in fact delayed payment for the object you received.

The only one who is both giving away something and paying for the privilege with nothing in return is @craige since he decided to get the ball rolling.

Exactly

I think the `Pay it forward' idea is overcomplicating a good idea.

If you have something you don't need and someone else wants it. The receiving person pays the postage. End of.

Yep, but not really the point of the thread, you have always been free to give away your stuff for postage costs.

@craige Sorry to mess up the thread. Should have chimed in on the discussion post earlier. Saw it too late.

It's fine, maybe shewie will be able to move the discussion to the other thread and I'll change the title.

I'm surprised the Sawyer hasn't gone yet
I'd gladly take it off his hands but all of my stuff is currently in a shipping container and waiting two months before offering up another item is the best way to kill this scheme.

With regards to who pays postage, another advantage of the current system is that it is an incentive to keep items small and postage costs reasonable.

Otherwise I'd be tempted to take that Sawyer and offer up an old tent that weights 5 kg. ;)

Member taking last item will offer up the next item in the thread

As the thread has started with 2 items, hasn't the simple concept been changed already. I thought the idea was to just look at the last post and it just progresses from that point It's going to get messy and hard to follow/find available items of the trend continues? Or am I missing something?

I think having a choice of a couple of different items from one member might not be a bad thing, but it might be better if we had to pick just one of them and then it moved onto the next person, so item a or item b.

Suggestion: anyone wanting to offoad dusty discards for the price of postage is free to post in the For Sale section with a big FREE in his item description.

Wait, that might be a little too cartesian a solution...

" with a big FREE in his item description"

Yes, probably best if we do, keep a separate thread for the free female flim-flammery ....:D

But +1 pointe for use of word cartesian - liking that muchly :D

only the pants.

Clearly a sore subject:angelic:

Au contraire mon braves... Why do you think us cyclists have Chamois in our shorts...?

Very comfy :) - That is - once you've removed the horns :rolleyeses:

I think the person giving the item away can make the decision on if they want to pay for postage or not. No need to try to build a structured system when you are dealing with people on the internet. Worse than trying to herd cats.
I have taken parts in PIF's for years. There will always be those who take advantage. Just as there are always the generous ones. If three people request a pif from me I will make the judgement of who gets it. Has nothing to do with them being first. Are they an active poster? Do they only post in the buy and sell threads. Do they jump on every free thing out there etc... it is your item you are giving away after all, not the forums'.

My bad that should of course have read "his/hers/its items" but I dare say that a separate thread for kites and litre-sized containers for the purpose of nocturnal urination does sound like a good idea. :whistling:

OK, I've changed it so there is only one item available for the moment. Can always chage it again as time goes on.

It's going to get messy and hard to follow/find available items of the trend continues? Or am I missing something?

In terms of it being messy, I'm assuming that because we trek-liter's are prone to meandering off topic discussions that it'll get messy anyway, at least some of the time... so I'm going to try as much as possible to keep the current active item(s) listed at the bottom of the OP.

Forgived :angelic:

But I did think we might have persued some intercontinental 'Filly so fickle' punnery along the lines of Des Cartes and the dualistic nature of his mapping strategies perhaps... Balagan? I'm just a little disappointed

Though of course you'll understand that, with my background, I'm rather more in favour of integration, rather than compartmentalisation of the mind / body paradigm...

Moreover, I did consider making some copies of my rather splendid kite... Such a simple design, and flies on the slightest breeze...

So I''ll be in the orderly queue for lightweight fabric offcuts, with this in mind.. :).

What do you need yardage and property wise? I may have some I can bung in with moles mule tape?

Ooo really? Thanks :)

But won't this mess up the pif system?

But if allowed, it's probs no more than 18""square, and I guess I could scale it down even... If you have any selvedge trimming for tails, that would be cool too..

It's light to med weight poly spinnaker type stuff. But would be interesting to see how I could push the aerodynamic parameters with other fabrics.

It's an air pocket, type construction, top sheet thereby a bit wider, maybe even by + 50% but I don't want to dismantle for patterning, so will have to do some fiendishly clever measuring. :o o:

Pretty colours, always welcome too :geek:

Na, it's not a PIF.

I'll see what I've got, I'm guessing most lightweight windproof type fabrics will be fine then? I think I'll be able to manage something. Hopefully in pretty colours. No pink though

Jolly decent of you Craige, I'm imagining tolerances on fabric types will be fairly broad...

And I'm not only into pink you know; wouldn't wish to be typecast

I've just inherited my mother's fine old husqvarna machine, and would like to get back into making stuff.

If I'm busying my fingers with that, then there's less opportunities for annoying folks on here..... So your generosity will have served everyone on here... :) you'll be hailed as a saviour of sanity on the forum. :angelic:

Oh, did you get @Mole's message too? ;)

Yeah, derr, school-boy error...

He forgot to leave me off the group p.m.

Oh ; and whilst we're on schoolboys :geek:

Rather than the rather inelegant ; his / hers / its ; you are, I'm quite sure, very aware of the collective, non gender specific, possessive determiner 'their'?

Not entirely certain, if they're all appraised of the distinction though ...:banghead:

I always thought "their" implied some sort of plural. I would have used it had my sentence began with "All/People/Those who want..." Not sure it works so well with "anyone" but I've not had the pleasure of attending Ms Valkyrie's Advanced Grammmar and Dead Accurate Axe Throwing class...

It would be grammatically correct, and perfectly comprehensible English to use the word 'their' in this context Balagan.

I don't think that many native English speakers realise quite, how lucky they are, not to have had to learn their language, as secondary to their own mother tongue.

We make up lots of rules, and then merrily break them, seemingly just for the fun of confounding others.
