I think I was #1448 or something... anywho, surprisingly I received this in the mail just now. At least I got a reply... :D

Thank you for getting back to me – my original letter was not meant as a means of canvasing support, just a sincere welcome to the area and some brief information about how the democracy works at a local level.

Regarding the petition to extend the deadline to record historic footpaths & bridleways, I am certainly not in favour of any moves that will prevent people from enjoying the countryside – Covid has shown the importance of getting out to exercise.

I’ve been contacted by a few constituents on this issue and sought more information - the Government does recognise local authorities have backlogs of applications to record rights of way and it is considering delaying the cut-off date until 2031.

With Brexit and now Covid, DEFRA has probably not been able to concentrate fully on this issue but the petition you have signed, especially now that more than 10,000 have signed, will help to raise awareness and theGovernment is obliged to answer the points made in the petition.

    Yours sincerely,

    Derek Thomas

MP for West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (St Ives)

@Lempo Good stuff. We should all write to our MPs about it, to raise awareness and get them onside.
