What is the logic of buying pack of certain volume and then strapping 5 addon pockets on it? I hiked like that too, then just went back from 35 to 50l rolltop that allows me to carry everything and food for 10 days inside.
It looks good though, no damage besides slightly abraded looks.
Well, I can only see four

. As the total weight comes to about 650g, I can't really see a problem. As for the logic, you'd have to ask her, but I can tell you that it isn't a lack of volume in the pack as it nearly always has spare space inside.
I can tell you what the pockets are used for. Hip belt pockets: daytime snacks. One top side pocket: hats, gloves etc. Other top side pocket: used food wrappers and packs (on the walk in the photo above, we went five days without passing a bin). Top lid: visors, sunglasses, filter etc - but its real use is as a carry-on on public transport to carry cameras, gps and other breakables/valuables.
No doubt she can do with fewer pockets when she has to as her other main pack - Osprey Levity - doesn't have the top pockets.
