Did you have any non UK maps on your account? I had a large area of Northern Sweden, Norway, Austria and Spain as well as some Harvey's maps on mine when I transferred to OA only the OS maps came across. Luckily I hadn't deleted VR.
No, none. I've got all of scandi on micro sd and tend to use a Garmin etrex over there along with paper maps. I prefer my phone for UK though as were better connected and there isn't the same level of wilderness.

I only swapped to VR last year after an OS app nightmare.

I'm sure going forward though that I'll be putting more foreign mapping on it. Phone reliabilty, waterproofing and battery life is so far ahead of where it was even a few years ago.

More bad news (probably): Gaia GPS has been bought by Pocket Outdoor Media, together with a bunch of other magazines/services.

On the bright side:
All employees of Outside (as well as Outside TV, Gaia GPS, Peloton, and athleteReg) will receive job offers, and no relocation will be required.
So perhaps they just keep the people behind Gaia and let them do their good work?

On the other:
Thurston’s vision is to build what he calls the Amazon Prime of the active lifestyle: a connected, holistic ecosystem of resources—including content, experiences, utilities, community, commerce, education, and services—that can be uniquely customized for each active lifestyle enthusiast.
I don't like the sound of that.

I have subscribed to both OA and Gaia as back up this year, I would hate for both of them to let me down...

I really like Gaia - the layered view is excellent. This does make me pensive about renewing my membership though. Really do not want it tied to a bunch of content that I do not want or get used for advertising. Will keep a close eye on this

edit. Decided to give FATMAPs another try as I had not realised that they support both OS maps and SwissTopo.
