Thanks for accepting me on this forum.

Two young children and family generally prevent me getting out as much as I would like though looking forward to the time I can take them out camping etc.

I like riding my bike and sleeping outdoors when I can - at present confined to a few times when I am away for work ( bivycommuting ?)and plan to do more in 2017 including some independent time trials and more audax events.

Hi, and welcome, bivycommuting sounds interesting, tempted to do some myself when the weather picks up a bit.

Hello Will :)

+1 on Davy's comment...

I took my eldest wild camping in Australian forests at about 3 mnths old.

Our younger boy at a similar age on Dartmoor.

Kids are generally far more adaptable; and portable than most adults.

Fairweather Camper - that's inspiring !

I've taken my eldest (at that time 2 ish ) out for a 'day time' camp with the carry back pack and a tarp and a picnic but not more , though a bit of traditional big tent camping has been done too.

I think part of it is convincing my wife its a good idea too as she is still currently a source of nutrition for the girls as well as comfort at night for them both :)

Like I said kids are very adaptable, so long as they are warm, well fed, and they have you they are usually happy, they often sleep better with the 'white noise' of wind in trees or a river...

I was a source of nutrition for both mine for three years apiece....

Very portable, ready warmed, always hygienic, immunity boosting, sleep inducing, ideal food for kids... And free too.... :)

Don't forget we all lived outdoors most of the time up until relatively recently.... Central heating, and disinfectant, are not what we evolved to live with.... Just use your common sense, you won't be endangering your kids lives..... More enhancing them..

Hi all,

I finally got out for a overnighter ,I sometimes have to work away from home so instead of staying in a crappy hotel I parked up,at the meeting venue at Diseworth, the midlands the night before, had a meal in a pub then cycled down to a 'wild' campsite http://gowildsurvival.com/ and then cycled in to the meeting the following morning having been rejuvenated by a nice forest ! Synthetic quilt from Scotty and Exped synmat combo worked ok, but think I will get a pillow pump to make it a bit comfier and compensate for my choice of a slightly too short mat which had been a decision made on cost and availability !
