Yeah, there just check-in now, which is fine.

I'm presuming I can still use it as a nav even with the location pings off

Yep I did in the dolomites.
Tho navigating using the garmin explore app is much nicer, its just a line on inreach with no mapping..but totally useable...
I Sync said route to both then use phone app.
Play with it locally by creating a route on OS maps and export to garmin explore app (it does it for you) ( then sync app and inreach)then follow that or OS one...

I use my Inreach Mini (original rather than 2) with the Garmin Earthmate app for messaging, tracking (if I want a record) but use the Inreach to show location if needed in OS maps (or Memory Map).

The 2 uses the Garmin explore app, the earth mate won't work with it.

Using OS to create route is far more detailed than the explore app but its easier to send OS gpx to explore and then sync route with inreach as an emergency backup.... than trying to create a route in explore (as far less detailed)....

I've used the explore app more because I have done more routes in Europe than I have done in the UK since getting the inreach.
And I use alltrails too 🫤

And I'm still a novice and still learning ...

Got it! 👍 I've sent to my Fenix watch & used that in conjunction with OS. Will give the sync to Inreach a go. Might as well have another level of redundancy as I'm carrying it! It only gets used for messages.
