Free and instant reduction in Base Weight for LighterPack users...

For those who use LighterPack, I have just noticed a slight glitch which might enable some of you to make some base weight savings!

If you put items in worn weight such as trekking poles and footware with their individual weight and then put quantity as 2 it seems lighterpack only counts 1 items weight as worn weight and the other as base weight.

So for example my trekking poles are 245g each and I put qty = 2 but is counted as 245g worn and 245g extra on base wieght.

Obviously this makes no actual difference to your experience on the trail but still made me happy!

You can make yourself even happier by not listing your trekking poles at all.

Hmm you're right. What a big glitch. I'll contact dev.

Is it a glitch, or thinking that while hiking one will always be on the ground and one carried?
That's always been my theory on the weight of trekking poles :)
Of course, it all changes if you have to pack them away for scrambling :(

While on the subject, there was a video a few years ago of some US vloggers on the TGO with a lot of Zpacks gear - @Lempo will know who they are, I'm sure - and in nearly every shot they were carrying their poles. I'd love to know if they just thought it looked cooler in the video or if they generally walked like that.

Darwin, Bigfoot and some guys from Zpacks. I think they use the pole on ascends, descends and just carry or pack it on flats. I think I've seen Bigfoot doing something like this on his vids.

Always count one of my trekking poles as base weight since it lives on the pack unless I need really it, the other one (despite my dislike of having anything in my hand while walking) I always have in hand these days. It helps with my slightly dodgy hip.

Might be heritage showing itself. I do the same (and it's still relatively common)-carry either both or one, unless I need it, or both. Like to walk hands free as much as possible. One stick handy was the tradition in case of 'wildlife shifting necessity'.

Wildlife as in legless bitey thing or an over frisky roo? :D

Legless bitey Richmond FC supporter. Wouldn't shift so I gently nudged it off the track. Waiting and tapping and stomping made not a difference. I think I heard it laughing at me :banghead: . It was small so I felt OK doing it....because I could outrun it.
It's older, far more aggro eastern brown cousin another time.... well I just waited very, very still.....5m away. I could feel that one saying ...just try moving me dickhead.

Pretty sure this is a feature, not a bug.

Anything worn as a pair should be listed as a pair. On the other hand, if you wear a jockstrap and carry a spare in your pack, you don't have to list them separately, just make the quantity 2 and indicate worn. Lighterpack will deduce that you are not wearing both at once.

Yes, this makes sense.
