Yet another initiative directed at curating our hills.

Give it a few more years, and this might be the kind of conversation some of us will be having:

Q So, who are you with?
    A Nobody
Q No, I don't mean that, I mean which organisation?
    A I'm not
Q Oh, I see. What route are you hiking?
    A None
    Q Is that allowed?

"Fjällräven will be on hand to support participants along the way, stationing experts at various checkpoints along the route where walkers can get advice and restock with food and gas.":confused:o_O:wacky::cry:

The thing is only 60 km fer crying out loud!

"They’ll not only be taking place in Sweden and Scotland this year, but also in Denmark, Germany, Korea, Hong Kong, China and the US."

Thankfully, France is missing.from the list.

So as far as I can see, your £200 gets you a map, a bus ride, a gas canister, 3 days of trekking food and a medal at the end. Bizarre. I could sort of understand if it had some sort of mini-music festival or something at the end, but no mention of that. Not that I'd want to, but I wonder what they'd do if you just turned up and walked with the crowd.... "Oi, you, where's your tag!"... "no tag mate, just walking"... "oh... but don't you want a £200 Primus canister?"... "I'm alright thanks"

I think Trek-liters could all sign up as "experts" to man the checkpoints and earn some dosh ? :whistling:

They want us to walk in a gihugeimus big group for two and a half days. And their only going to pay us £200! I'm sorry I would need at least twice that amount to even consider it.

    £200 quid

Not really a challenge as such, more a mobile bourach

I've pretty much done the exact route a couple of times, mine probably slightly longer, I'm a slow walker compared to most and I only had one night on route each time, (stopped at white bridge once and Bynack ruin once) so they're really dragging it out.

On the plus side it is a really nice walk, very easy going, glen tilt is very pleasant (probably not so much with 200 folk all piling up it at the same time, and marshals and toilets etc etc mind).

    Can I get a t-shirt :D

Here are some predictions based on experiences from Sweden:

    - Participants will be very happy with the event and getting together with all the people from the whole world during the event.

    - Participants will feel the thrill of spending nights in tent out on the unpredictable and dangerous Highlands but knowing that they will be taken care of if things really turns bad.

    - UK will be the second largest nation in terms of number of participants after South Korea.

    - You will start to base all your planning for the summer on avoiding meeting all the participants on the trail. (I met most of the 2000 i Sweden once...)

    - Blair Atholl to Glenmore will become the trekking to do in Scotland.

    - People will start talking about their through hike Blair Atholl to Glenmore.

    - The world will soon know that Blair Atholl to Glenmore is about the only thing worth doing in UK, if you done that you have done it all.

    - You will have all areas where you spend time outdoor on your own, execept for Blair Atholl to Glenmore where there are loads of people form all the world.

(Bdw I really think the two first ones are positive things, I am not sarcastic.)

Just looked at the dates again, luckily I'll be away. In Sweden not doing the Fjallraven classic, avoiding Abisko like the plague.

My sister will pretty much only do a trek/run if there is a t shirt/medal at the end. For me I feel the same as above, why pay £20 to go for a day walk?
