If you get the pot you should consider the Sidewinder Ti-Tri to go with it. It's a great combination and the cone shield rolls up and fits in pot unlike the Caldera/Ali version.
Which version did you go for bud? You checked out the Titanium cone/burner? The full setup is really light and very fuel efficient. I have both the 600 and 900 pots with ti cones for both. They're my fave setups now
Haha, Yes Ali for Titan and Ti each for the 600/900 Evernew's
If you remember I originally bought the Ali one of the Evernew's but didn't realize it wouldn't fit inside the pot like the Ti version does so got a Ti for both. All stuff - cone/burner/fuel tabs etc fit inside pot rather then having an extra canister for everything like on the Ali versions.
Yeah they're great bits of kit, The Ti ones are brill as they roll up inside a tyvek tube and fit in pot and come with a little Zelpy starlight stove. Can boil about 5-600ml of water on about 15-20ml of fuel
The DIY job looks quite good, where is the locking section, round back?
I've got the 600 and short Evernew pot, also got an older CC for my Tibetan 900 pot.
Good bits of kit but pricey for what is effectively a windshield, they do work well in meths mode though, if a little fussy about level ground. I've not used the inner cone or done any wood burning in mine, I have a Bushbuddy for those trips.
fussy about ground level? in what way? the most stable setup around surely? been using cones for 5years plus, and find them tolerant of all sorts of ground. especially with the starlyte-which is happy working at quite a steep an angle
Just with the stove, getting the right flame height or just being clear ground, I camp on quite a lot of tussocky ground and have a had a few occasions when I've searched for a small flat rock rather than trying to balance the stove on wonky straw-like grass. I've not had a problem with the pot and windshield though, that plonks on top of most things quite happily.
Ah. I see. So the stove not the windshield/support. My cones (Until the Ti Tri sidewinder) are all homemade using Captain Paranoias program. I always used homemade stoves before settling on the Starlyte. Did sometimes have the probs you describe with a the Mini Zen chimney (scroll down) stove I used for a couple years prior to that. I don't really rate the 12-10 compared to the Starlyte or even the Mini Zen chimney- it just seems oversized for the job it does.
The Bushbuddy is a good wood burner though, not just a grate or box style stove, once it's going it'll happily burn away thumb thick pieces of damp and punky wood. I tend to use mine through autumn and winter for hammocking trips to the Cairngorms, supplemented with a Fancee Feest and small bottle of fuel for backup. It'll happily chug along with a frying pan on the top, handy if you hit a village with a butchers
