Looks a mess to me.

Ditto. I was thinking about why a flat top is useful and can only think that it allows them to use the cuben at standard roll width rather than having to add the small infill panels we see on many mids at the peak as well as shave a little weight. I dont think the extra headroom claim amounts to much given a 122cm pole height. Yes other mids narrow at the top but are generally taller anyway and if using a dpte its no different. So in summary i think the design is economics led rather than consumer benefit led.

^ I concur. The flat top has to be quicker to construct too as the tape is applied to straight edges .

I assumed it was to give some of the advantage of the two pole designs? Its one pole right? I think zpacks have always been efficient in their cuben use, makes sense! Making a duplex copy made me realise how optimised it was re biggest shelter for min amount of fabric and work. I guess same for hexamid, not a criticism.

I dont see it changing the geometry enough to give any benefit. Guess we need a lot more vids and reviews etc to get a handle on why its a benefit.

anyone noticed the blurb on the Oookworks website about him packing it in? was thinking of selling my inner, might be a collectors item now

NO ORDERS FOR NESTS BEING TAKEN. TUBS ONLY

I'll only be making nests to sell as in-stock items until my back orders are fulfilled, and then that's probably it.

I'd like to say it's been fun, but in reality it's been an unrelenting nightmare that's destroyed my health and any semblence of a normal life for the past 6 years.

I'm done with making some of the best gear in the world, while at the same time living in abject poverty. I'm done with the constant worry of finding the money for materials. I'm done with the constant worry of someone wanting a refund and it setting me back for months and the knock-on effects that ensue. I'm done with never being able to buy myself anything or take a break. And most of all, I'm done with abuse and threats from folk who have no ****ing clue what I sacrifice in order to try and keep people happy.

I believe there is money to be made at this, just not by me. A business like this requires capital and enthusiasm. I've never had the former and I'm completely out of the latter.
If someone thinks they'd like to give it a go, I'm happy to sell ownership of my designs and provide training. Just drop me a line.

I think its for the best. Quality was never his problem, running a business was.

Looks like people will have to go to MLD directly or Trekkertent maybe? not heard good things about bearpawdd

That’s a shame. I’m not surprised it ruins your health, I always think this when I see people running as one-man-bands. Hope he’s able to get his life back.

I did get a custom tub from TT recently, really good quality and design.

Thats a really sad read. Too tight margins/self- exploitation is not uncommon in the cottage industries but doubly sad when its somebody who deserves much respect.

Sad about Ookworks but I have seen something very similar every few years with individuals starting off really well and then slowly running out of the initial euphoria and getting buried by one problem after another.
On a better note (maybe...) Tarptent has posted a bit of a teaser on FaceBook about a new shelter coming out soon.
Any guesses ?
