I need to have a count up but it’s been a funny year for getting out, it started off well but then tailed off a bit, probably in the 30’s somewhere.

The last few months have been impromptu overnighters with the odd long weekend thrown in, next year I’ll make better use of my four day working week.

2019 has been a rough year for weather for me, and a few kit failures to boot, I’ve retreated off the mountains more this year than ever I think, must be getting soft in my old age.

"Name and shame" is not intended :sorry:.
I would hope most of us understand when folks cannot get out as often as they would like to.
Work, Health, Location have hindered all of us at some point or other.
And kids....Ok they are not kids but not old enough to not trust to burn the house down :arghh:.
2020 many more wildcamps & 2021 plans for a camper van and long weekends away.

Well, managed one more last night, decided the weather was just too unforgiving to the views so didn't stay for a second only for it to become a lovely sunny afternoon. Oh well, I finally did the home -> Kinder -> home walk I've been meaning to for too long. So 9 nights in a tent + 2 glamping. Decided to not count the glamping, so 6—10 :)

14 wild camps
About 7 basic campsite camps

Happy with that. If I can be out once a month for 1-3 nights all is well.

Also 10 Nuttalls (not my best year but also not the worst)

I'd count that as 15-30. You were out on the PW for a good part of that count ??:)

Up to you. If that's all you ever did then ??
But if it's a mix of that, and "wild" camping - yeah we all have to get freshed up occasionally :).
That's how I looked at it. I still count campsite camps as they are always on my backpacking route and I wouldn't be there otherwise.

Yeah but no but...doesn't seem right.

No Pennine-waying this last year, decided to try and sort knee issues and also had other commitments.
Hopefully this year.

The short outings are good training for the PW (or any other LDP) but are also great little adventures and get-aways.

Nuttalls...yeah I'm a bit of a peak bagger, gives purpose to some of the trips and you get to visit areas that look dull on the map, but often end up being really fab. 137/445 (-ish). Some nuttalls get demoted, other hills promoted as height measuring techniques improve.

70 to 80 odd is my best guess, so around or below average for the last decade. Winter didn't see the usual amount and it was backend heavy.

Without doubt though, it had many of the best nights ever camping. I got very lucky with the weather last year.

4 months on Harris was sensational, as was the 3 weeks up in Finnmark and catching a once in a lifetime massive solar storm.. An amazing windless night on Macdhui with an inversion and noctilucent clouds is prominent in my memory too. I think did a month in the Cairngorms too.

Here's to a record breaking 2020 :)

Sent from my hammock swaying in the wind in Rothiemurchus. :)

Best 2019 camp?

South Uist in May, camped on a wild peninsula on the east (uninhabited) side of the mountains, the Skye Cuillin in sharp view suspended above the sea. Utterly remote, pathless, undisturbed and so beautiful. Otters, seals, deer, seemingly unused to human intruders. Only this 'hobby' of ours can take us to places like these.
