Zpacks Altaplex

Yeah that's my camo Altaplex in yesterdays thread

I don't have a lawn but we can pitch it up in the park nearby, I'm south Leeds, just off the M1
Ah yes brill, I’m free most weekends but this Saturday I’m away unfortunately. When would it be ok to travel up?

I bought it from ebay just before xmas, I think the guy bought it late 2016

I'm not one for looking at stitching on seams so not really checked it over like that, and I've only used it the once so not spent much time staring up at it.

Well I'm 6' 8" and on a 2" mat I had 3" above my forehead and my toes were touching the canopy. @Shewie did pitch it low at the back though.

Still liking my Hut1 with walking poles in A frame style. Head under the highest part of the tent. Andrew can have my low mileage spare for a keen price. 17oz, I'll throw in a tyvek floor and some military grade bugnet.

I bought an MLD Solomid XL in sil instead. You'll have plenty room in an altaplex, it's a pretty tall shelter and I had a fair amount of room either end at 6'3".
I’m only 1” taller than you so a solomid XL should also fit the bill for me then?

Yeah it will be fine... although I use it with a lightweight bivvi so no inner... Not sure how much space I'd have with an inner. Plenty in the bivvi though.

Surely shouldn’t lose to much length with the inner? Do you feet touch the outer when lying flat? Which bivvi do you have? I want the Borah eVent bivvi but the chap doesn’t have any event fabric at the moment :(

No idea about the dimensions tbh. No, I've got pretty good clearance at either end and can sit straight up without brushing the outer with my head. It's a MYOG bivvi with a breathable top and bug mesh at the face. Similar to the borah ultralight bivvy but made to my specs.

Not, wonderful
I'm still trying to think of a 5-letter word for **** :)
I still have the email where Matt (2nd in charge?) Said the stitching on the altaplex I returned is wonky because they are handmade
Was the wonkyness enough to affect the strength of the tent or was it just an aesthetic annoyance?
Did you send one back then Craig? Did they replace it? If not what did you buy instead?
Maybe you could pm @gixer - I believe he sent back a faulty backpack, and he could tell you whether he got all his money back.

Imo yes, it certainly prevented a properly taut pitch, the puckered seam tape also didn't help with that though.

I did get a "full" refund in the end, minus import fees and exchange rate changes. I had planned on getting a replacement but they "forgot" about me for over a month after they received my returned tent. I then had issues getting my initial shipping back, the lady I was dealing with for that was adamant they don't refund shipping for faulty returns

@Shewie, sorry I know you don't like bitching about companies on here but I do have pics and emails, as well as being out of pocket. Imo they shouldn't be protected if their products/service/workmanship are sub par, especially when they acknowledge the workmanship issue.

It's a pity to hear that; their customer service used to be very good.
Entirely possible, perhaps even likely?? That I was just a one off and did just slip through the cracks and/or end up dealing with a new employee who didn't quite get it. I honestly don't know, cs side of things I have always heard positive things.

Re Z packs. I sent back a rucksack for a replacement. Joe offered me a $50 refund but the bottom corner seam was totally out of wack and the seamstress had "forced" it to fit together.
I got a replacement which was acceptable. A different shade of black though...
