Around 20l. Less than 500gms. Anyone? Or recommendation where to buy (but needed for September, so no Stateside suggestions)? Thanks!

Have a look at the Alpkit Gourdan 20lt, it's a roll top dry sack, fully waterproof and weighs 470g. £32 with free delivery which is usually within 2 days. Used mine on day walks for over 2 years. Hope this helps.

Hyberg bandit maybe? 310g 30l + front pocket. I bought one of these and sent it back because not only is there no foam or support of any kind in the back but it's made of very thin silnylon, so flops about and will depend on packing, she'll get no support from this pack. It took about a week to get here from Germany.

Strangely enough, I had one of these. Will check it out, but my remembrance is of poor weight to volume and uncomfortable shoulder straps.

Probably too big. No support is fine but if pack is too big, it can be difficult to get good weight distribution through careful packing.

I used to use a Terra Nova laser 20, less than 300g with hipbelt pockets. Better if you use a bladder as water bottle pockets are not great. My Mrs likes the 35l version she's inherited from me.
Impressed with @FOX160 s hyberg, fantastic blend of durability/weight/price

I have a deuter speedlight 15L and love it.
    Light and simple.
    They come in different sizes.

    Thing is.... I have a 30l + pack weighing c350gms. She's thinking a 20l pack will weigh proportionately less. Speedlight 20l is 490gms.

Thanks for suggestions folks - very helpful. Any more?

Second that. I was using one of those on the walk in my photo it's lasted since 2011 with a puncture repair (for a bike innertube) on a barbed wire puncture. Alpkit has very good customer service too.

    +1 on the Alpkit offerings.
Have 30 and 20litre models (I think) pretty bomb proof, good value, and simply lightweight.

Surprisingly comfy carry if intelligently packed.

And still not bad, even if you just cram everything in like you only just got outta bed in time :whistling:

Lowe Alpine Fuse 20. Looks good but I haven't seen one yet as they have just been released. £30 and 340g.
