I've got a black one with a hole in the top. I'll have to make a decision on whether to go for wearing that over a cap or this green one I've ordered. I'll test em out in North Yorkshire sunlight. It shares some similarities with the Scottish variety. When I lived up there I didn't have any form of protection eeeeeek! it was awful fencing.

I've weakened and ordered some direct from Topo. Here's hoping I don't have to send them back like with every other pair of shoes I've ordered in the last year.

Those Darn Tough Light Hiker socks were just delivered 59g a pair size XL. XL are perfect for my size 10+feet. In common with most socks the tops are v tight for my thick calves.

Damn, that thought never occurred to me. I've never needed to use one but with me planning a trip to Scotland this year or next I thought I best prep. I'll send this back and get a Black version. Thanks for the tip

...Any recommendations for specific brand? A lot I have checked are either vague on if they're fine enough for midges or the ones that say midge proof the reviews say they're not.

[edit] Went for this as got some good reviews..

I'm keeping my green one. I don't really want to see the cloud of midges around it anyway.

I think I'll compare the two on a sunny day and see which I prefer.

The mesh on this is really fine. I'm sure it will keep the little blighters out.

I wear a Tilley hat when it's sunny - I need a net wide enough to go over the brim.
What hat do you intend wearing and will the net go over ?

I have a cheapo one from mountain wearhouse, works fine and fits over a cap (I have a small head mind).

I usually wear a baseball cap and these look ample for that. I've not tested yet though as not taken out of packaging. From pictures it looks like it should also accommodate a Tilly hat but better to check with manufacturer or reviews.

A bit bigger than the sawyer mini but as @Teepee says, flow rate is better, easy gravity filtering, and it can be backflushed with a squeeze bottle if neccesary ...

I have a couple of midge head nets and normally use with a Tilley hat - never had any issues with size. You'd probably be unlucky if it doesn't have enough space.

20210410_084254.jpg A basic dehydrator (bought a few weeks ago). This is the 2nd batch and came out okay. Hopefully it will taste okay as well next week when I'm off for a few days.

My second pair of Lone Peak 3.5's are showing a bit of wear now. Ordered some 4.5's to replace them when they do give in.
