Ultralight gaiters suggestions wanted?

In the winter I am looking for UL waterproof gaiters (without straps going under the sole). I'm struggling to find UL versions when I look at what's for sale. Recommendations wanted please. My use case is to catch mud and water when on boggy ground or if it's raining to keep water from getting inside my hiking boots.

What footwear are you using? Just wondering about not wanting straps underneath. Some are just shockcord I think a couple of pairs of mine might actually collect mud without the strap.

I think the Altra ones don’t have a strap.

sorry, missed the hiking boot bit.
I have some Rab hispar gaiters somewhere but don’t own any boots apart from some old ones in the loft

I'm wearing altra olympus mid goretex - no heels. The altra gaiters aren't waterproof when I checked. I have some 'heavy' berghaus gaiters that I just clip to the laces at the front of my leather boots (i don't use these boots for multiday trips anymore) and they stay in place fine even without under-sole or heel attachments - so I'm assuming something similar would work with my altras. I just want lighter gaiters than the berghaus.

Do your Altras have the velcro flap on the heel? If so, you could look into Zpacks gaiters, remove the cord and add a velcro patch on the back.

These have no velcro at the back. I'll check out zpacks. I didn't know they did waterproof gaiters.

Are you sure about the Velcro on your Altras?
I don’t have the same model so you might be right, but in pictures it looks as if they might have the same fold down flaps that reveal the Velcro as other Altras!
It does make a neat way to secure gaiters

Sorry, I misunderstood you, I thought you meant the Zpacks gaiters. They don't have velcro on them either, but you could add velcro on them as well as on your Altras. I added a velcro patches to my old Inov8s which worked with OR gaiters and Dirty Girls.

Have you thought about trying a pair of waterproof socks? I got an all weather pair for £17.99 on Temu, much cheaper than a pair of Sealskinz and 8g lighter. Then it won't matter if your gaiters are waterproof or not.
Another option are zip up waterproof over shoes. I found some on Temu, one pair the same height as a pair of wellies (360g a pair) and one big enough to cover a mid boot (270g a pair). They offer the same protection as a pair of wellies, but are far lighter and unlike wellies they fold flat making them easy to carry when not required. At only a fiver a pair each they are certainly worth a try.

Do you recommend the Montbell ones? I was looking at these - nearly twice as much as the Rab ones I just bought, but lighter and I'm guessing they pack away smaller.

Yeah, they’ve worked well for years now. Mine are the shorter versions.

I've a pair of full leg ultralight Montane goretex gaiters that are still going strong after a few years. I think they've been superceded by a few variations since. Might be worth your time looking at present offerings.
