Ukhammocks T.Q. More tails of woe

Yes...I know, I know! I’ve read the past reviews on this, and other forums.
But A. It was on sale.
B. I was away for February, so it didn’t matter too much if it was a few weeks late.
C. I’ve bought gear off him before, (warbonnet/his own) but this was before he did the expedition stuff.
After 7 weeks I messaged to get delivery time.
After 8 weeks I had a reply from someone called Dionne, who said the shell was complete, but waiting on down to be delivered (this seems to be quite a popular lie) and basically Mat was off doing cool stuff, so my order wasn’t important enough.

It’s been over 12 weeks now, no replies to my messages and no quilt. I feel like a bit of a Muppet. I had been warned!

How did you pay? Can you charge back or go through PayPal? I'm all for giving small businesses some slack, but if they bs you you owe them nothing IMHO, its actually doing everyone else a favour to get your money back and let people know.

i had my first warbonnet stuff off him many moons ago. back then he was a good and reliable trader. would give him a single penny these days. If it does arrive check the weight very carefully. Friend of mine received a summer quilt that weighed more than his winter one.

I don’t get it? I like to think that I’m a reasonable kind of guy. If there’s a problem, let me know, don’t ignore it.
If I remember correctly Paul, I had an email from you once. You were genuinely upset that your product was going to be a couple of DAYS late. haha.

The irony is, that I was the one that was pushing to get a group of us to go full out, and go on one of his Malaysia trips. But Now, none of the lads are willing to shell out £thousands of their hard earned after this.

Try phoning, but to be honest at this point I'd just request a refund. Unless of course they're waiting for the geese to die of natural causes before plucking?

Odd, when I bought loose down off him it came up a fair bit lighter than I payed for...

yea id guess its because its easy to the quality when loose. my friend could feel the feather stalks through the shell fabric. I urged him to cut it open and do it live on youtube but he's too tight :D UKH said his scales must be faulty but that was easy to test and there were no problems. He sent it back and they claimed to have checked it and sent the same one back which miraculously was far lighter when received.

After 14 weeks and 3 days, it’s finally arrived. Hurrah!!

Unfortunately, I could tell straight away that it was heavy. According to the website an ultralight Argon 3 season quilt is 520g (approx)
mine has weighed in at 777g on my scales. Heavier than the winter quilt.
So, it’s got to go back. With their poor customer service, i fear it’s going to be a painful experience.
Have sent an email asking for a refund and to just call it quits? Don’t know how I stand legally?

Not sure how much of trading standards is left, better off with PayPal or your credit card company imho

seems clear to me they are using down other than the fill power stated if they arent achieving the weight. If they dont agree to timely resolution of the issue i would involve trading standards.

I’ve checked it this morning against my HGUQ and in my opinion, it’s not Argon 90/67

I'd go with trading standards aswell, I believe with debit, well at least visa debit you have to have had opened a dispute within 30 days of purchase.
I've only dealt with UK trading standards once, (where I learnt the above info) & as you have an item that's 50% heavier than advertised I can't see you not having a case.
I'd contact them today though if you haven't already.

It does sound like duff down to me as heavier fabrics wouldn't add that much. I've had loads of down from China that was heavier and weirdly seems to have dust in it but as I've stuffed so many quilts in readily apparent when it's not as stated. It'sthe risk of ordering Chinese materials I suppose, I just get the stuff from extremtextil.de as it's so nice, bloomin' expensive though.

Don't ukhammocks say they use polish .850 down? Stuff I bought from them was noticeably loftier than the 850 (US) down I got from China

It should be. I'm sure it says 850 eu fill? That's about 960 US? I get a bit annoyed though as European companies often use US fill values or don't state which they use.

I couldn't comment on that or their source apart from when I've ordered Polish down it's been consistently brilliant.

He should stick to making gear hammocks ...it's really starting to wind me up the Matt has come to this...he was never stellar , and has made a living off the back of ..(cover your eyes) bushcraft folks...and folk that don't want Chinese dd or heavy and bulky snugpak gear.....it really smacks you in the face when you want to support British cottage industries.. ...there's a few out there who are letting customers down....and yes...I'm a treadlite whore ..but that's because I've never been disappointed, let down, or heard of anyone else , anywhere ....just a shame Paul doesn't do quilts etc....but then he would be trapped in the glass house and we'd nivva see him out enjoying the fruits if the loom ....

While I don't advocate heavy use of Credit Cards they have their place and I rarely do any online business with anything but a CC and Paypal, especially with a little-known entity.
