i am hoping to put together a group buy for TL members for a handy little camp/cooking knife with a custom made BLACK kydex sheath/cover. initially i wanted to get blue knives/sheaths to match the forum colours but unfortunately they have been discontinued. i know lots of people appreciate how good the little victorinox paring knives are, myself included (just search victorinox on here) but i am put off carrying one for camp cookery as they don't come with a cover and anything i try to make is either heavy, shonky or likely to injure me... the last thing i need is to accidentally slice a hole in myself or my tent. However, if you actually want to do any cookery while camping then imho these are the best for the job and they are a decent size/strength to use for plenty of other light tasks as well and they are easier to clean than a folding knife. the ideal solution for me is a kydex cover/sheath as this is light, robust and is shaped around the knife for a very positive fit. i have approached someone who does excellent kydex work and they can do a batch of 10 in 1mm kydex the (lightest thickness available) for £80 + postage. Jim's standard price for one off work is a minimum of £15 + P&P so it is a decent saving. you can have a look at his work here: https://www.instagram.com/no1jimmypie/ and these pages give i think the best representation of what we would get https://www.instagram.com/p/BcSHT_dnNOe/?taken-by=no1jimmypie https://www.instagram.com/p/BarSnFenmq1/?taken-by=no1jimmypie https://www.instagram.com/p/Bab63H6HatY/?taken-by=no1jimmypie https://www.instagram.com/p/BPc1LdQFzWZ/?taken-by=no1jimmypie the sheath will have 3 rivets that you can also thread cord through and weight wise it should be around 15g, that's just a guess but i have a sheath on another knife that's twice the size and has 9 rivets and that only weights 24g. if possible i will also have the end of the handles drilled so a cord can be attached. i need 10 takers for the initial run, then i may be able scale this up to another 10. i may have to put some other number limits on this depending on the amount of interest so some people may be disappointed, sorry. @gixer @Teepee @craige @Beachlover have already expressed interest, @Shewie can you confirm if you still interested and what colour/blade type BY EXPRESSING AN INTEREST YOU ARE DECLARING YOU ARE OVER 18 if you don't respond to PM's or have never contributed to the forum, you may be removed, sorry. COSTS 10cm Knives are £6.50 direct from victorinox Sheath will around £8 postage will be around £3 including getting the knife from the supplier to the kydex maker, back to me and on to yourselves. if you live overseas i will get a separate quote for P&P or can hold on till you are next in the UK or ship to a relative. total should be £17.50 but if its a tiny bit more i hope thats ok. i will buy the knives and ship them to the maker, he will return them to me once the sheaths are made and i will get them posted out. if members know/see each other then i am happy to combine postage to reduce costs. I won't be profiting from this at all and if there is a pound or two left it will be put in the lifeboat tin. i don't need any money now, i will PM you when i need payment and it will need to be paid via bank transfer. if the coloured/10cm is not that popular i may look at getting a batch of cheaper 8cm black or coloured handled ones done but the saving will only be around £3.50 for black and £1.50 for the coloured ones if there is a lot of interest then these may need to be made in separate batches. the knives themselves are easily replaceable, its the sheaths that we are really paying for. note that the serrated versions only have a very mild serration and are still just as easy to keep sharp. in a past life i was a professional chef over a decade and used the serrated version on a regular basis. initial offer is: if you are interested, please choose a knife from: serrated: https://www.victorinox.com/uk/en/Pr...Knives/Swiss-Classic-Paring-Knife/p/6.7736.L4 or non-serrated; https://www.victorinox.com/uk/en/Products/Cutlery/Paring-Knives/Swiss-Classic-Paring-Knife/p/6.7703 copy this list of participants and add your name to the next available spot. please don't tag people or quote the whole post unnecessarily, just copy and paste. Batch 1 1. JKM - Orange serrated 2. Gixer Orange non-serrated 3. Teepee Orange non-serrated 4. Craige Orange non-serrated 5. Beachlover Orange serrated 6. Shewie Orange serrated 7. 8. 9. 10.
