Can anyone give me a source for reflectix in the UK? I can find :
1. Single bubble layer with 1 layer of foil.
2. Single bubble layer with 2 layers of foil (1 each side)

But I can't find double bubble layer with foil on each side like Reflectix

Got tons mate. Tell me what you need and I'll drop in post

Small Bushbuddy-style wood stove.

Outer can is 11.5 cm high and 9.7 cm wide while inner is 10.5 cm high and 8.5 cm wide. Eight 12 mm air inlet holes on the outer can and eight 8 mm holes on the top of the burn chamber, loads of slightly smaller holes on the bottom. Nothing was measured, just eyeballed the lot.

The whole thing fits in a Snow Peak Trek 700 although it is slightly too high to fit the lid.

Pot stand comes from a Swiss Army M71 Emergency Stove, which is basically a can of Sterno. Wraps snugly around the burn chamber in travel mode. This might be replaced by a lighter one made from a can.

Stove weighs 103 grams and pot stand 21.

Burns something fierce : loaded to capacity with pinkie-size bone-dry wood and kindling on top, the burn lasted 48 minutes though it was mostly embers after a while. The grate will be raised significantly and I'll possibly add a bottom plate to protect the ground. The burn test was done on a piece of dry hard wood to get an idea of how much heat went downwards and this was the result :

That's a roughly 1 cm deep burn. Definitely not suitable for using atop picnic or bothy tables.

Rough looking folded titanium BGET stove, sized for the UK MOD hexamine blocks. Work pretty well. Still stinks.

Nice. Hexamine in a cone is just as efficient as ESBIT and about 1/6 of the cost.

I like the smell! ( in small amounts) - takes me back to burning beans n spam in a mess tin with my primary school mates. :)

I see Speedster Stoves do something similarly sized. Though it comes flat packed.

Is it still Issued as standard kit? The MOD could probably have saved a fortune in hexi over the last 50 years if they'd developed an efficient windproof stove.

I've no idea what the MOD are issuing now but I bought about 15 boxes (on a car boot) of the old issue hexamine so just made a stove for it as it's easier to handle that alcohol. Alcohol is probably still out in front for me due to the smell but I can boil 700ml twice a single hexy so it's petty efficient.

Yes the second option. They are using Firedragon tabs and not gel. There is also a lot of hexi to get through first!

I'm thinking of shortening the burn chamber and adding a bottom with an attached ash pan to see if it makes a worthwhile improvement.

At least, my test piece if wood is destined for a campfire rather than public furniture. ;)

Thankfully not public. Insulation is the only way to stop plant damage as the ash pan still get very hot.

I think the ash pan idea is the way to go. If you can raise it off the base with three small studs,ie feet about 7-10 mm high. This will enable airflow under the burner, preventing ash burn.

I thought I would try making some dried milk sachets from jumbo drinking straws using the pliers and lighter technique to seal the ends. Torjet lighter and leatherman pliers were perfect for this.

I managed to make plenty of mess while doing it.

So after faffing about and making a mess I was quite pleased with my handywork until my wife asked me why a little bit of clingfilm or plastic bag would not do Instead and be easier. I had to admit I had no real reason so I had to settle for muttering about durability and waterproofness under my breath instead...... Oh, and the fumes gave me a headache :(

The whole pack looks great Matt. What's the capacity and weight?

Cheers Rog, wasn't a fan of the green but had some so I thought I'd put it to use, love it now. Bit of a porker this one with its 6 pockets, 400g. Capacity is around 40-45l all in. I'll add some more pics soon
