The highest we got on monte Rosa b4 the clouds came up (just about 3000m and naturally, the day ended in the rain...:D)

You couldn't stand still on the trail for a moment..... They were on us like flies on butter.
I Challange one on my leg and he stood up on his back legs like a bear and scoffed at my effort to remove him...

I remember seeing massive ant hills like that in Sweden. After being used to the knee high ant hills in the UK, it came as surprise to see them about five feet tall.

Biggest ones I've seen in the UK are nests built by Hairy Wood Ants. There's a large population in the Peak District around the Longshaw Estate and in the woods under Froggatt Edge near to Nether Padley. Nowhere near as big as these ones in Scandinavia though but if you are in the Peak District and have any interest in entomology those woods are worth a visit.

I got attacked by ants like that in Sweden many years ago - memorable.
We'd been canoeing and landed on an island to have lunch - they were on us in seconds and attacking - bigger than UK ants and the formic acid was much worse too.
Needless to say we retreated in haste and had lunch in the boat :(.

Owing to a 2 day bad weather window, I opted to accompany my cousin from Gressoney to Aosta bus station and then restart my hike backwards from the other end at Courmayeur. The weather wasn't quite fimished but at least I got to fly my kite in a rain squall in front of mont Blanc. Made me happy... :)

Best of both worlds... Gorgeous views with dinner and beer only minutes away (I camped an extra 65m altitude above the Letey hut which is located below the 2500m line (no camp restrictions above 2500m)...

Sounds a bit like my back garden ( uk) :arghh: hence the project to rid myself of all food sources to the fekkers, grit stone base & membrane and pebbles. A bite lasts aout 2 to 3 hours and is painful :rage: as hell.
Came across them type mounds in the French Alps too.

@edh you must have. Very tempted to divert into Switzerland on the TDC and couldn't resist doing at least the TDC waterchannel contour loop around valley head before coming down to Ollemont... Yet another trail on my long to do list... :D

A summer without mountains for me; these pictures make me... sad, jealous. Slightly. ;)

But happy for everyone out there.

September 15th can't come fast enough; I heard the Pyrenees calling me.

No great cinematography, but good fun.
