Phone with big battery

The biggest gripe people have is charging speed with the power 2. The reason for this is the seller is bundling a 5v wall charger with the phone to replace the 2 pin EU charger that comes in the box. What they dont realise is the power 2 is optimised for 9v fast charging. Better to buy an EU to UK plug adapter and use the one that comes in the box. The phone will then charge like grease lightening. Get a 5a version like this

Mine has just arrived so to early to give any feedback but the charger issue crops up in most amazon reviews and the reason became obvious as soon as i opened it.

Been using the power 2 for a few weeks now and im really impressed. Screen is much more readable in bright sunlight (better than anything ive used before). Parasitic battery drain is gone and im doing 3-4 days between charges. Stock android look (icons) were awful but i installed nova launcher and its much prettier / readable now. GPS & Glonass both work very accurately with Memory Map, Alpine Hike and Viewranger. At £99 it was a steal

Are you able access maps stored on an external memory card?
  5. paul

    paul Thru Hiker

That will depend on the app rather than the phone but i have with alpine hike already. Most mapping apps create folders on the rom and the card so shouldnt be an issue.

If you root your phone you can move many apps to SD.

No idea Ed. I tend to format my SD card as internal storage anyway so it matters not. Global total memory is all internal then.

A good solution...unless your stupid phone provider (Samsung as an exemplar) does not let you use adoptable storage (there are work-arounds though)...

Crazy isnt it. Buy a phone costing a fortune and get less features than a far east import at a sixth of the price.

I should add to my feedback that the camera is much improved over the power 1

Sorry, it seems I wasn't clear enough last time.
I was referring to the ongoing problem with Memory Map, accessing maps on the external card with android 7 devices.
Thought you might have had a chance to test it.
Some android 7 devices can, some can't (without rooting).

In MMap is not floating your boat (and as a long time 'not so much anymore' user these days) why would it....

    Alpinequest handles .qct map files....better...

There are a few OSM derivatives that do an almost as good job on many mapping platforms.

ahh i see, ill need to put some maps on a card and test. memory map is currently set up for rom access. i tend to use alpine quest for qct too @edh as you say its slicker

That's not my experience, zooming on Alpinquest gets a bit rubbish quite quickly. I know you can go to Settings/Map Display Resolution, but that is a bit klunky.

For my .qct s I much preferred MMtracker over alpinequest which seems quite clunky in comparison. But as stated the former won't work any longer with the latest android update on my phone.

If the glitchy screen on my current phone is not repaired under guarantee, think I will give the Power 2 a go.

I don't want to spend over a thousand pound on a 'branded' phone on contract or buying outright.

Bought a Doogee 7000. £170.00. Don't have any need to be seen with the latest phone but I do listen to the radio a great deal.

Initially heavy but as with all things - less noticeable now!

Ulephone power 3 users, 3 questions for you.

Camera: is it any good? It's the main reason for wanting to switch from my P2.

Operating system: is it vanilla android or has it been messed about with? Samsung style 'bloatware' and messed about with versions of apps annoy me.

Speaker volume for phone calls: is it reasonably loud? I have a hearing impairment and my current phone us only just loud enough. I seem to use it on speaker a lot which is not great in public and useless in high winds.

bummer, never had that on any of mine. my power 1 is still perfect after 2 years and the power 2 has been nothing but great

Power 3 has only just been released and not easy to get in uk yet plus its very spendy because of that. Smaller screen too. Ive had the 1 and the 2 and had no problems. camera on the 2 is far better than the 1

The Ali listings selling the USB boards have ~100+ sales I think, so it's clearly a weak point. I think it could have been the fast charger did it. I will buy a spare board, they are easily swapped. Just need to solder on the mic.
