Don't use hiking poles much, but they seem like a REALLY bad idea

I really wouldn't want anything stopping me from letting go of the handle like that

Plus i can't see how they'd keep your hands dry

If you've got a rainy tailwind and you're pushing with the pole behind you as is recommended that slit will be vertical towards and the wind and rain

I'd prefer mitts meself

I don't really understand how these are working. I am familiar with kayaking pogies where you leave them attached to the paddle, but these don't seem to work in the same way.
Is it a tube with a hole both ends?

Appears to have magnetic zippers

Appears to have magnetic zippers

Dunno Grant, maybe i'm missing something but even with magnets i can't see how rain isn't going to get in

When your pole is in front of you that opening will be facing down like this -
Unlikely to get any water inside

If you use your poles behind you, pushing forward that opening is going to be at this angle /
When i used to use hiking poles i found my sleeves tended to get wet as water rain up them, so i don't see how water isdn't going to get in

Maybe if they're used together with gloves inside then a bit of water getting in won't matter.
I'd still not want something holding the poles though, when i let go i want the poles to fall away from me

So i don't see how a pair of decent mitts aren't a better solution

I could see myself liking something like these for cold weather walking, wearing some thinner fleece and or waterproof gloves under also.

My hands get cold really quickly, but I do prefer poles for stability on wet or frozen ground.

And its good to have some dexterity for zips camera etc.
(My OR powerstretch have become 'tech enabled' by wearing through at the fingertips)

Getting thicker gloves, through straps is a pita.

These don't look too complicated to make, although the price isn't really excessive, compared with other winter gloves.

Plus being attached to the poles they're less likely to blow away in a gale.

Might magnetic zippers mess with a compass though ??

I would think if you use straps it wouldn't be a problem; I'm pretty sure the angle of my hand doesn't change. The problem I have with them is they don't look good for replacing gloves when in camp.

These seem a bit of a faff around & the last thing I want attached to my wrists is magnets (obviously designed by someone who never uses a compass).
Full on convert to using the Pacerpole pogies though, the design is much more practical. Yes they've a big hole to let rain/ snow in but they're remarkably warm.

I have no idea myself to be honest, but agree with you mate.
Looking at a photo seems that Gen appears to be using them as glove replacement.
