I was 6 years earlier. I bought a replacement copy of the Hitch Hikers Guide to Europe on Ebay last year. For anyone a bit younger this was the inspiration for Douglas Adams book, not the other way round.
Yes, I had the same book in the late 70s and early 80s and it was very useful when I hitched to France from Athens to spend the summer selling Beignet on the beach at Frejus.
I'm in no way judging the face.. The face is perfectly serviceable. It's wots hovering upon it that troubles me. I mean, we can all get a little bit frayed about the edges after a few days on the trail. But going by the accompanying hair length this would appear to be intentional.. I know I'm probably missing the point, and it's most likely a home grown UL midge screen, or soup sieve, or somesuch.
