Went for a lovely 10k hike in the woods yesterday, but as it's been raining a lot recently, the paths were somewhat muddy, meaning that the inside of my trousers are covered in mud now. I think it's time I invested in some gaiters.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent light weight pair of gaiters? I need something that covers most of the calves, based on how far up the legs the mud has gone.

I dont think mid calf gaiters will really work (if you can get them) as they just fall down. Its either shorty gaiters, i use rab event, or full length that come over the taper of the muscle. My Rab ones have been excellent and are my go to gear. if its gopping mud out then i use trekmates goretex knee length which i find a generous fit on my big calf muscles.

Not particularly lightweight but Rab Hispar have served me well for the past couple of years. Quite cheap at the moment too..

I dont think i'd buy any ultralight gaitors made from pertex sheild or anything as i wouldnt expect them to last.

I recentley bought some short Mont Bell ones to use with my Speedcross but i've not used them out in the field. They also do a longer version.

I use Rab scree gaiters with trail shoes in the warmer months, just to keep heather and muck out more than anything. With boots for the colder and muckier months I wear OR Crocodile goretex gaiters usually.

Having said that I've just spent five days in Yeti gaiters which were superb in deep snow and bushwacking through the blaeberries

I bought mine from Blacks. I don't like wearing them unless I have to

I've just bought some Hispars for £25.00, online.

I'll have a look where I got them from
