Anabatic and katabatic? I'm a bit rusty since my ML training though
Just come across this shop on ebay with some great prices on Montane samples etc ..
Had 180 deg about turn of the wind overnight at Easter twice - beach camping. Common occurance.
Hille Nallo so no problems
Didn't need to click that
Thats the Montane factory shop in Northumberland @Shewie
Ahh, that makes sense
Got myself a very fetching pair of orange trews
I've had a complete weather change at sundown on a couple of occasions above 2000m - balmy weather, high couds and the moment the sun dissappears, wind picks up, clouds hit the deck, rain starting ...
That said, the non-zip Notch is a plus for me - zips are the weakest link and my greatest worry high up in stormy conditions was always a zip failure. A potential for a bit extra breeze inside temporarily seems quite a benign alternative - to me anyway ... The notch is always a little breezy anyway but the half solid inner mitigates that pretty well.
Btw - the 1st generation TTs was zipless. There's a vid online of a zippless TT rainbow in a big storm with the whole shelter flattening out but self-rightening. What didn't happen was the door opening up and wind catching the inside...
@Clare - I had only 1 night so far on my Pyrenees trip last month owing to conditions (opted for hut winter room the following night) but pitching was as straightforward. I'll do a proper review with more experience - which may not happen here in the Sierra Nevada unless my back recovers quickly ...
Indeed, I don't object to zipless doors* but as with Mole, I don't see the logic of having them overlapping in opposite directions as on the Notch, guaranteeing that one of them is always going to be overlapping in the wrong direction.
* By chance timing** I was involved in commenting on the four prototypes of Duplex and I was one of those who opined for a zipless version (sorry @gixer ).
** I'd asked him if he might make a true two-person version of the Hexamid Long. I was envisioning something which would have been a cross between a TT Saddle and the HMG Dirigo, neither of which existed at the time. He said he was working on something, and that was the first prototype of the Duplex.
Is there an option to overlap the doors in the same directions?
My Pioulou is designed to overlap with the left door over the right but I can easily swap that over, it creates a small bit if flap near the top but nothing major.
I've only had to change the door overlap once so far with the Pioulou as the overlap is approx 8-10 inch at the bottom and around 6 inches at the top. If you pull the lineloc nice and tight there is hardly any flap or opening up.
@Dave V - designed to overlap one way but will try out next time I pitch. The 2 velco tabs don't convince me anyway - I rather rely on tight guys...
Just back from a camp in a glen. Was thinking about those zipless doors.
As we set up camp in the evening the wind was blowing down the valley but not strong.
In the night it came on strong around midnight, with rain, for an hour or so (-had to re-tighten the guys).
In the morning it was blowing up the glen.
The current zipplerless Notch would have been a liability - "blown up like a balloon".
……. fortunately we were holed up in Hille and very grateful.
