The wooden cabin in Inshriach forest/ Feshie. Anyone stayed there? I know its just a wooden cabin with bunks, and not as lux as some bothies, but I wondered if any of you had visited or stayed there. Just in case Ruigh is still closed when I visit next month. Also - does anyone know if a taxi will drive out from Aviemore to the car park at Auchleum?

I've read of Taxis doing the run to Auchlean - tho' I've not done it myself.

    This one in Inshriach?

I dropped into it once in 2011.

Seemed 'clean enough' and well used. Had a visitor's book and no noticeable rubbish.
    Can't recall if there was a fireplace/burner.

I was thro' there a couple of years ago, dry, basic, no heating (I guess not very desirable for a wooden hut in a large forest), good pitch in the vicinity

Yes Mole thats the one. It looked in good condition from photos, and I think its maintained, so kept up to scratch. I guessed it wouldnt have any heating, but that'll save me a bit o weight in coal! Glad to hear there's good pitching for our tents. I could imagine in certain conditions the interior could get a bit wet from footfall.

Thanks for the taxi info Cathy.

I've taken a taxi to Achlean/Auchlean where the tarmac stops from outside Aviemore Station.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be sure to post a report of our trip in Feb. Hoping for some settled weather for a change this year.

For a minute there, I had in mind the taxi service in League of Gentlemen.

    Funny you should say that...

I was there late Sept '15 iirc. It was fine, as you say a wooden cabin with bunks. No stove, there was a little rubbish when I was there... a couple of empty whisky bottles and lager cans as well as a few gas cartridges and some food but it was tidy and the cabin was in pretty good condition, obviously looked after.

The trip went well. Wendy had to back out of the taxi run, but sent Doc instead, so all good. Had a quick gander in Ruigh bothy - which looks mighty fine!. Our trip took us up the landy track to Mullach, after which we were in a whiteout for the duration (good navving practice) overnight snow turned to rain before we woke up to the same old white view, and after a morning in on and off zero visibility we decided to drop down a ridge early, and do a slight detour to reach the cabin. However the burn we planned to hop was uncrossable due to the snow melt coming off the hill. The burn was spilling over onto the forest track. So near yet so far (again!), but we found a decent few pitches in the forest firebreak, so had a nice evening in the tents again. A walk out via Feshiebridge and Kincraig.
