Morning.

What do folk use as a general purpose cloth/towel, if anything?

TIA

J cloths.

3 If on a long trip, one is in my cook kit.
2 in travelling wash gear. One for washing/initial wipe down the other for final drying off.

I always have a big hanky in my pocket whatever, so thats a hanky/flannel/towel/neckerchief/bandage as my EDC.

Small piece of microfibre, used to wipe down shelters before packing, mopping up condensation after soggy nights, wiping out pot

Poundland microfiber sports towel, c35*45cm when intending to shower or wash somewhere. It's the toweling kind of microfiber rather than the smooth.

Nought......on short trips.
I carry a buff so use that if have to.:D...( BTW, the buff is also a bandage if needs....)
Never carried any sort of towel but on very long trips which didn't involve full time camping, packed a Sarong......multi purpose piece of kit. Large and very lightweight.
Useful for long bus journeys in 3rd world countries when the bus stops on a plain for a loo stop....the guys all turn their backs for a few seconds then turn around and stare at us poor females...SO, out comes the Sarong..."Ha, ha...can't see me now.......":p:p:p

Aye Baldy and back of hand also, don't forget..

Found one of those MSR's Packtowl's one a campsite once. I washed it a 1000 times before first use (just to be sure )....

It weighs around 18 grams, dimensions are 46x58cm. It works pretty well, dries very fast and is mostly used for wiping off condensation.

Yes, I've got one of those. I used to carry a big cotton handkerchief but it took ages to dry once wet. The packtowl practically dries as you look at it. I also have a cheapo microfibre cloth for mopping up condensation - surprisingly useful.

I must say it's nice to see measured and constructive answers to this query. ;)

I know of a couple of forums where the overwhelming response would be along the lines of "Man up and go UL! I just use my buff to dry my scrotum, cover my pillow, lift my pots, blow my nose, wipe condensation off my tent, filter my coffee and keep my head warm. Great multi-use item!" Which is bound to go down well when out and about with the missus (though I guess the kids might like the idea). ;)
