Butane lighter tips

Not sure if this should go here, mods, please move if required.

I particularly liked the zip-tie mod, when I stash a lighter with other gear I do worry that it could be accidentally ignited or the gas valve accidentally pressed down resulting in there being an empty lighter that is useless when you need it.

A little mod that will cost only a few pence and one that I intend to do.

Not watched the vid, but don't use that sort of lighter because of that reason.

The type of lighters I use don't have the disadvantage of being easily pressed.

I've used Poppell refillable Electronic lighters for years- never had a failure. One is 5 years old and still going strong.
The button/valve has a fairly stong spring for the piezo, so almost impossible to activate accidentally.

And also, try using a flint lighter with wet hands - once flints are the slightest bit damp, they stop sparking until dry again. Which takes some time.
In the past, I often had the frustration of having to dry the flint - easy with a clipper, as it's removable, but a pain.
(Clipper was my choice when a smoker many years ago as they are refillable and the striker is removable - making a useful pokey thing for constructing home made cigarettes...)

Decent duck tape works really well for solving those issues, a wrap round the valve and flint and then stuck down with a little tab to make it easier to rip open. It waterproofs the lighter flint, is reusable, stops the valve depressing and it burns well too. ;)
