I'd go 25mm as a minimum. I usually made my setups for 30 these days. Think @Whiteburn suggests even 35mm is ok.

15ml is pretty good for a 500ml boil and very ambitious for 700ml. (unlikely I'd say). I've never achieved it.

Width is far less relevant than flame gap I reckon.

Maybe I’m muddled up on how much to test boil ...I’ll have a play tomorrow if I get chance before work. So for 700 ml water ? 20 ml. Or shud I just test 15 ml against 500 ml of water ?

I've not found any significant difference with my MYO stoves with flame gaps in the range 25 - 35mm, beyond this range the performance deteriorates dramatically; I go for 30mm nominal to cater for minor differences in the field.
15g for a 700ml boil would be remarkable unless the water was quite warm to begin with, the best I've achieved is ~15ml for a 500ml boil with the water starting at around 5C.

Ta all..I’ll have a play again ..always use a plate under burner/cone so height shud stay the same between the hill and my work bench

The efficiency of my MYO stoves also depends on the amount of the initial fill. They seem to be the most efficient (both speed & amount consumed) with say a 25ml initial fill leaving about 10ml left in the stove when the boil is acheived.

Yep. Unless just warming a cup of water, I usually load up the burner and go.
ften I use all the fuel with a second round of heating a lesser quantity of water.
But with a screw top lid, unused fuel seems to stay in the wadding OK. (I store my burners in a small press seal bag too).

So filled burner with 20 ml bio dropped water amount too 500ml space between burner and pot bottom 30 mm. Boilied in 9.48sec with some burn time left, judging by the flame. Ta.
