Best repair tape

After a near life changing experience with a barbed wire fence, I have a six inch rip in the crotch area of my Montane Atomic over troos. They are made of Pertex Sheild. Which tape should I use to to repair and protect my modesty?

It's all good, there's no blood. :roflmao: I'd use some black Hippo tape that I carry for repairs, it stays stuck for years.

For some one such as yourself, with more class than me, you may want to pick up some black Spinnaker repair tape.

In my experience (limited to clear Tenacious Tape) this is nothing like spinnaker tape: thicker, not as tacky and not as flexible.

Probably not, the first is similar.

But with Spinnaker tape you get 9x as much tape for the same price or less.

I suppose I might buy MC Nett for an expensive/critical item, but not for a 6" rip in pertex overtrousers.
It's probably not 9x as good...?

Using spinnaker tape friends and I have repaired tears in several down/primaloft jackets, and a down sleeping bag. No sewing, and are still ok , years later. And waterproofs. I supplemented my pertex waterproof patch with seamgrip. The trick is clean fabric and carefully rounded patches which are thoroughly rubbed on.

+1 for spinnaker tape. I've got repairs that are still good after 3 or 4 years in place. You can can cut it to a nice thin strip and also put a thin strip of it on the inside as well, just round the corners when you cut it so they don't lift.

Thanks for all the replies. Have ordered some spinnaker tape. Could have gone with Gorilla tape as no one is likely to inspect that area.:shamefullyembarrased:

I bought some 'PSP Spinnaker repair tape'. Washed the troos and made sure they were dry. Cut two strips of tape with rounded corners, applied tape to garment and pressed hard with a cold iron. The tape doesn't seem to have stuck that well. Is it my method of application, the tape or a combination of both leading to a non-satisfactory result?

I had to do some repairs on my waterproofs. 2.5 drilite. Nothing much stuck including the spinnaker tape. In the end I put it down to the fact that I'd done a wash and TX job on them recently and it was that that was the issue. Especially after using it on some other older waterproofs, where it adhered brilliantly, and another more 'fabriccy' jacket where it was like an invisible mend.

I'd say taping the inside first and letting it adhere for a bit before doing the outer as well and making a sandwich of the fabric.

On the Drilite I found some clear gorilla tape and applied it to the inside. making sure the tear was back in its spot, then after the original outer tape failed, I ran some shoo goo glue along the tear to keep it sealed and it worked. Not the neatest of jobs, but battle scars on show!

@HillBelly
You may well have hit the nail on the head there. I washed them with a couple of other bits and used TX direct. I'll try your suggestions, if that doesn't work, will give them a good wash in detergent then try again. Thanks.

I use spinnaker tape and have always had it stick well. Clean the site with some meths and make sure you round the edges, some waterproof repairs have lasted years. It even works on an old Platypus that I punctured by tripping over! I always carry a short length in my rucsac and have been very glad of over the years.
