    A really nice film :)

Sounds like you have really given this some thought. I barely ever touch colour and light correction... it would take me a month of Sunday’s, once I get started. I corrected a clip the other day and then linked the corrections with a bunch of others and wished I hadn’t and then sort of lost myself :D I don’t have premier pro - I may have to dabble in that direction one day but am quite happy with the free DaVinci Resolve at the moment.

It's all about the need. If I was doing a thru-hike and tried to minimise everything, then 720p30fps would still be decent quality
If you shoot in 24fps, then you need to have the project file in editor in 24fps, otherwise you get tend to get massive choppiness or wobbliness, because the editor artificially adds 6 frames every second to fill in the missing data.

Here's a good example. I followed Mary's PCT hike and she did lots of entertaining and good videos. However, I'm pretty sure he was shooting 24 or 25fps but edited in 30fps (the YT file is 30fps) and if you watch this video you see the choppiness or the little jumps with sweeping movement which I'm quite convinced are those catch up frames every now and then.

Disclaimer: I tend to see little issues like these, whereas my missus for example will happily watch anything without noticing.

I know about streaming etc, because I was a PM for video streaming services in my previous life, but my knowledge of actually shooting and editing are not great so I'm studying up on that. I haven't really even started learning about colour correcting yet, which is another Pandora's box. :bawling:

I had a quick chat with a professional filmmaker and she said that they used DaVinci for colour correction, even if they edit in other SW.

Interesting. I only use colour correction a teeny bit to reduce the differences between different cameras we use.Occasionally also to compensate for incompetent camera handling (ie. shooting footage with the wrong white balance setting...)

The out of the box GoPro settings are pretty good for most things but are too contrasty and saturated compared to my GX8.

Stuff also looks different on different screens.

That’s really interesting- there’s a lot you can do in DaVinci ... I’ve altered a few clips to raise brightness and contrast but haven’t begun to delve into its depths yet. I’m usually tired after a couple of days hiking and filming followed by a day of editing - I just want it done before I go to bed :D

We're in talks of doing a skill swap, when I get my clinic up and running again. I can then share what I've learned.

I took the GoPro Max tonight instead of the Hero 8 - it behaved much better than I thought it would :D
