Update on the bathtubs. Lack of pics due to them being all out of focus when checked - sorry (hopeless phone camera).

Trekkertent bathtub fits well in the tarp, due to its tapered shape, and the shock cord stretches nicely to clip into corner pegs on tarp. So easy to set up.

3F UL bathtub well made. Also fits the tarp but tighter fit at bottom end of tarp. The pegging points have linelocs so can be adjusted, but would work better, being switched out for shock cord as per the Trekkertent one for this tarp to save unnecessary pegging.

My tent pole set up works ok, but does flex a bit when tightening the tarp up. Sturdy enough... although I will give the double trekking poles a go, because the open front without a single pole down the centre is great, and the sturdiness of the poles will be better.

Trekkertent tub, with shock cord to corner pegs - spot on. Perfect for the tarp and nice 30D material too.

Mod to tarp - I added a length of line to the front to be able to stake out to the optimum width each time (for the poles). Stuck a loop in for the peg then ran the spare through the lineloc tensioner. Makes pitching a doddle.

3F UL Bathtub. Non tapered 80cm wide x 210cm, just fits narrow end of tarp.

A couple of extra pics from the other day which weren't too blurred shows how each one fits in the tarp. 3F tighter at narrow end. Tarp pitched rubbish - but it started to rain and I couldn't be bothered any more.

Both ok, but I do like the Trekkertent one!

What do you guys think about this inner mesh?
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mMEzx9F

It has a bottom, but I was thinking of adding a polycro groundsheet.

Do you think it would work? And would the bottom slip on the polycro?
We had a custom inner made for a Golight Shangri-La 2 that was similar to this in concept (i.e. all mesh including the bottom). I made a bathtub groundsheet for it out of polycro. It is slippy but works fine if you attach the net to the polycro (it looks to have loops you could use) and the polycro to the fly, which I did by attaching bungee cord loops to the polycro (larks footing them to a hole punched in duct tape) and slipping the bungee loops over the fly tie out (though you could peg them out if you want).

I've been thinking about modifying my 3F one to make one end narrower, or making some sort of clip for the corners to make them temporarily narrower. It would also fit the Trailstar better then.

There is another inner on ali where the floor is 3000mm waterproof, but it weighs 185 grams more than the mesh inner + polycro:

It would be less slippery but weigh more. It sounds alright making holes in the polycro, but also sounds a bit fragile..

I don't think that'll fit as it is the wrong shape and the door is in the side.
Wouldn't you be able to hook the top to the front supporting pole? And would it be too tight a squeeze to get in from the side? I mean.. bivvy owners go in from the top so..

I think I have this one but only used it for one night because I didn't go out at all during the summer. I found it a bit clumsy but that's probably my fault. I used it as a curtain over my torso and used my shoes to support the ends.

Looks like a great way to try out tarp camping for small money.

I'm not sure about adding 'Aricxi' to my list of trused AliExpress brands though, I've seen them on there but hesitant. 3F UL is good though.

I wish some Ali company did decent flat tarps in the price range of this one. There are a few 3*3 ones but either expensive or heavy, and I'd love to try a 2*3 ish. Only time I got to play around with a flat tarp was with a buddy who has one of those big blue ones. I was so proud when I origami'ed it into a mid.

The aricxi one is brilliant, though, if the style fits especially. If not, it's a decent spare shelter easy.

The Flame's Creed ones come pretty close to that though..

I have this Flames Creed one. Its 500g, which seems about right for a 3m x 3m tarp, and cheap (£35 in that link). It seems quite well made too - reasonable reinforcements at the tieouts. Here it is at 2000' in Scotland earlier this autumn, as it happens folded to mimic the shaped tarp which started this thread.

It seems to me the older version of this tarp (still available on Ali express) is the better buy. Lighter, catenary cuts, better stitching and fabrics. At £25 that's some deal it seems. Might have to try one

Newer one is 15D and seam taped. Older one is 20D and a bit heavier I think.
I prefer my tarps or tents to be double side silicone which the new one won't be if it is seamtaped. Also don't like the look of the stitching on the tension points on the new one. Old one has a better stitching method. But mostly the new one doesn't have catenary cuts which is a massive downer.

The previous link for a suggested large mesh inner seems to have dried up, I found a couple of options that look similar:

Sissi's Outdoor store Aliexpress #1
Donkey Mom's home Aliexpress #2

I think they must be using What 3 Words to choose shop names. The specs seems suitably random and made up, if anyone can make sense of it all, or suggest an alternative supply please give it your best shot.

Little heavy for this kind of setup at 600g I'd say. Would prefer the inner to be around 300g mark. Liteway do a 1p inner/bivvy type thing that could work. I also seem to remember MSR making a 1p inner. MSR thru hiker 1p or something that has a.similar.shape

I have a Trekkertent inner bug nest on its way to try with the Arixci. I'll update here when it comes. Dimensions seem to work and the TT bathtub I have already fits well. Its the bug nest for the Stealth 1, and weighs in at 230gms.

Just a quick post showing a pitch of the tarp this weekend to show that when pitched as this, the catenary cut on the new version is evident.
