Aliexpress "Down" Jackets

I know a number of you have found a few downy bargains on Ali and I, too, have supped at that poisoned well in the past. But I'm wondering if anyone has found a good basic down jacket on there?
It seems that the sellers are wont to call anything quilted "down", even if it has not even brushed against a chicken, let alone been intimate with a waterfowl's breast!

Not looking for something mountain-worthy or hero-grade, just a little extra for evening mooching at camp here in the mild mild West. If I can pick up down trooses and booties for less than 20 notes, surely a half-worthy jacket can be had for twice that?

This is likely a fool's errand, but this errant fool is endlessly optimistic!

I'd be interested too. Son has grown (massively upwards ) and needs some thing fairly "chunky" with a hood that doesn't break the bank (my bank :whistling:).

I've been happy with my Tectop down trews after a couple of trips, I'm sure I'll stick a damp foot through a seam one day but for now they've replaced my Prism pants, not sure if Tectop offer any jackets?

I have two from Decathlon - one for £30 and another (higher-grade down) for £40. Very pleased with both. The cheaper one gets used day-to-day, and the other for 3-season backpacking. I know it's not AliExpress, but perhaps worth a look if you' haven't considered them yet? Particularly as you get to try them on etc before deciding. I was 'alerted' to them last year by @FOX160 for which many thanks!

We've both had versions of something like

this for casual, and 'semi-heroic' :bear: use - if snowfields over 2,500 m counts for mildly gnarly - in these environs ?

Pretty robust and still in good shape after 4 - 5?? years - unfortunately my memory doesn't serve me well in these matters.

Zips not the toughest - but by all accounts its tricky to get tough, light, and cheep

They often have sales too i understand.

I'll keep a eye on TKmax as I go by several regularly. Just depends on luck I find.

These seem great for the money. Not sure of weight or fill but they have them in Costco for a similar price and they're quite "puffy". There's another in Costco as well but I can't remember the name to search for it.

uniqlo use cheep Chinese down and are not bad for what they are - certainly made to last (and IMO more "trustworthy" than the opaque claims made by some of the big mountain fashion brand names for their expensive jackets. For low level shoulder season, or cycling, I take an uniqlo jacket and keep my expensive PhD gear for when it counts....

He's a long thin "skinny malling" (6' and 60kgs) - that gets hypothermia just looking at a snowflake :(.
Size M, L or even XL - as it will need to go over everything else.

He has a "not very puffy down jacket" already.
What is missing is something that will do for stops in serious Artic conditions, -10c and lower, on winter hills, ie. a PHD Yukon at quarter the price  - unlikely I know :(.
2nd hand would be fine but last time I got such on ebay it didn't 'live up to expectations' :meh:.
I just need to get lucky :whistling:.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.

The Uniqlo stuff can be had for around 1/3 price on AliExpress. It will have labels and stuffsacks simply saying "UL Down" and be quite easily recognisable.
I have had both gilets and jackets in the past.
    Sizing can be small.

    Got any links?

In the past, I've bought 4 different Uniqlo UL down jackets off their UK site for myself and family. All have been true to size or larger. Certainly better than the 2 Montane down jackets I've owned which have both been on the tight side on the shoulders and arms.

Fabrics were high quality(Toray i.e. from aa Japanes mill - at the time - I believe). Still going strong and lofting well. It was 5 years + ago, so maybe they are different nowadays.

Here is the gilet I got last time, I had a look in the Uniqlo shop at the time and it was identical and they had all that years colours. Think I paid £12 delivered at the time.
I think the same seller has jackets. You can see the UL logo in one of the photos.

Look for any seller advertising a selection of jackets in this years Uniqlo colours and they will likely be the same.

Look at the 5th image in my link then compare the typeface to the 9th image in gadgets link above, that's what made me realise they were the same initially.

It they are half price at Uniqlo it's hardly worth saving the £10-12 though, unless you are buying a families worth or you are a Scrooge like me.....

I have a tk maxx one with hood like @Diddi posted. A Frederick Anderson one. 40 quid it was and its fine. A couple of people have commented favourably about it come to think.

Although I admit my grasp of reality is being severely challenged by current events in the public sphere, I think I’m still holding on.
