@craige Tyvek bug has bitten:)....I love working with it!
Good idea on the zip but I can see the rain getting in easier compared to zip on the side?
Haha, yeah it was a much more shaped pattern than I'm used to so thought I'd proto it first and I had tyvek lying around.
You're right, it will be more expised but it's a lot easier to get access to the whole bag this way. I doubt I'll seam seal it anyway so it'll never be waterproof, I'll just have to keep valuables in ziplocks, like I do atm anyway.

That's just a bad pick, it's straight for 1m then flares out to.
Baffles were 1.75" for most of it and 2" for the grey area. Plan was for a to freezing rating with some margin

Not shabby at 44g/pair...Apex65/Pertex4 combo...tried two different methods...left = liner+insulation add shell right= shell+insulation add liner...note one on the right came out smaller with same pattern used.....also the smaller one feels a tad colder....volume reduced...insulation compressed?

poor soul without elastic binding tape...used non elastic grossgrain ribbon for the edges :banghead:...but loops aded for easy on/off ....field test tomorrow ...-10C expected

They look really good! Mind if I ask how much did the materials cost in total?

Finished the apex 67 over bag for my new sleep system. It was going to be a bag but I ended up making it kam snap together so it can be used as a blanket, might put a slit in the middle big enough for my head to so it can be used like a poncho liner.
End of line 22g/m m10 outer and 23g/m very breathable dwr inner fabric ( the 10d Ali stuff I'm always using)
355g for the outer 11°c rating
560g for down inner, I recon ~-3°c
Together I hope they will cover the lowest temp I'm expecting, especially as I always end up sleeping in my hypertherm.

Not so much something I made as modified. I was after a windshirt as my arcteryx atom LT is a bit warm when heading up hill but more breathable than my waterproof. Looking at the prices made my eyes water until I remembered that in the back of the draw full of running stuff that hasn't been opened for far too long, was an old running windproof I bought in Nepal many years ago.

It weighed more than my waterproof did, with full length pit zips, zipped pockets and a mesh lining. I cut out the lining, unpicked all the zips and then sat down at my wife's sewing machine, which I've not used in many years. An hour later, I have a new, much lighter windproof top that weights just 155g.

I'll probably take the arms in a bit as they're fairly baggy. The fit around me is reasonably good as it's become slimmer with taking out the zips and stitching it up. I'll try it out for a few days hiking before making any further changes. All it really needs now is a coating of some sort of DWR as it's go no water repellancy at all.

I need a bit more practice at sewing so I can feel a few projects coming on this winter.

The pair of mitts above turned out great but had to make another pair due sizing .... with a touch of color ascent...waiting for a elastic edge binging....should be 45g pair but bigger size...20171211_070000.jpg 20171211_065948.jpg

even with the lightest of the Apex insulation these run WARM...
